Description

The IDRU General Manager is the Executive Officer of Illawarra District Rugby Union, responsible for leading all operational, developmental, and administrative functions across senior and junior rugby in the Illawarra district.

This role has two core purposes:

  1. Governance and Operational Support — To provide administrative and operational support to the IDRU Board, including delivery of competitions and other programs across the district. The role also involves identifying and securing new funding opportunities through sponsorship, philanthropic contributions, and government grants, in collaboration with NSWCRU.
  2. Strategic Leadership and Growth — To oversee the strategic direction, management, and growth of rugby across the Illawarra, ensuring long-term sustainability and strong alignment between clubs, schools, and pathways. This includes leadership of IDRU's operational framework, financial management, stakeholder relationships, and strategic planning.
    Where Development Officers or program staff operate within the district, they fall under the General Manager's day-to-day coordination and logistical oversight, ensuring their work is effectively aligned with IDRU's objectives and delivers consistent support to clubs and schools across the region.

Key objectives include:

  • Providing administrative, operational, and strategic support to the IDRU Board, clubs, schools, and community programs.
  • Managing, and overseeing the two Casual Employees delivering the IDRU Academy and Junior 7s program, ensuring their performance and program delivery align with IDRU's objectives.
  • Driving growth in player participation, coaching standards, and volunteer retention.
  • Supporting the delivery of projects that promote community well-being and social inclusion.
  • Developing and implementing recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies for players, coaches, and volunteers.
  • Managing competitions, events, and compliance, including match-day operations and data management.
  • Securing sustainable funding through sponsorships, grants, and philanthropic partnerships.
  • Promoting rugby through media, digital platforms, and community outreach.
  • Rebuilding trust and constructive working relationships between clubs and the Board where needed.

This position integrates:

  • District leadership and strategic implementation
  • Competition and representative rugby management
  • Club, community, and development coordination as approved by the Board and NSWCRU
  • Funding, governance, and partnership management
  • Management of program staff

The role provides professional coordination to support the IDRU Board and its committees, ensuring delivery is collaborative, transparent, and consistent across the region.
