ABOUT SUNNYBANK RUGBY UNION CLUB

Sunnybank Rugby Union Club is a proud, Premier Grade club based in Brisbane, Queensland, with a rich tradition of developing elite talent and competing at the highest levels of Queensland Rugby. As we enter an exciting new chapter focused on growth, performance and sustainability, we are seeking a visionary Director of Rugby to lead the club's rugby programs across all levels.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director of Rugby will provide strategic and operational leadership across Sunnybank's entire rugby portfolio, from junior pathways through to Premier Grade.

This is a leadership role with genuine influence, reporting to the Rugby Executive, and working closely with the General Manager, operational team, volunteer workforce and key stakeholders to drive the club's rugby success and culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement the club's rugby vision and strategic plan across all programs.
  • Lead and mentor coaches to deliver a consistent, professional and positive coaching environment.
  • Step in to provide direct coaching support across teams where necessary to maintain program standards.
  • Drive player recruitment, retention and development across all age groups and senior teams.
  • Oversee high-performance frameworks, training environments and performance analysis systems.
  • Work closely with the leadership team on planning, budgeting, resource allocation and cultural initiatives.
  • Act as a public ambassador for the club, strengthening community ties and external partnerships.
  • Ensure alignment with Rugby Australia and Queensland Rugby Union's broader policies and objectives.
  • Work in line with the Precinct's and Club's broader strategic plans, contributing to long-term sustainability and growth.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

We are seeking an experienced and inspiring leader who can unite, grow and elevate Sunnybank's rugby programs.

Essential:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience within high-performance rugby environments.
  • Strategic thinking ability combined with proven operational delivery.
  • Strong track record in coach development and junior talent pathways.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Commitment to living locally and integrating into the club and broader community.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within professional or semi-professional rugby systems (Super Rugby, Queensland Premier Rugby, NPC, Top League, etc.).
  • Exposure to club or academy development environments (including elite school or university rugby programs).
