We are currently inviting applications for the role of:

HEAD OF ATHLETICS

The Head of Athletics will provide strategic and operational leadership for the school’s athletics and strength and conditioning programs, ensuring high levels of participation and quality pathways for individual growth and success. This role oversees the development, coordination, and delivery of athletics activities, including the strength and conditioning program.

Day-to-day the role:

  • Develops and leads a holistic athletics program that encourages participation and supports individual growth and success.
  • Mentors and develops athletic coaches, fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Provides operational leadership across athletics, cross country and strength and conditioning.
  • Actively supports the wider sport program and department.

The Athletics Program

St Margaret’s has a long, proud history of women in sport.  The school was one of three founding members of the Queensland Girls’ Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA) in 1908, an association that continues today.  The primary school is a member of the Andrew’s Cup Competition.  Athletics runs throughout the year and high participation and interest in athletics has resulted in St Margaret’s becoming one of the most successful schools within QGSSSA and Andrew’s Cup competitions.

The Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will be someone who instils an athlete-centred approach, where learning and care is key to their practice.

As an experienced and passionate coach and leader you will possess:

  • A proven ability to develop a holistic athletics program which encourages a high level of participation and incorporates pathways for students to engage and enjoy individual growth and success as an athlete
  • High-level interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, athletics officials and coaching staff 
  • Ability to positively develop and mentor athletic coaches 
  • A well-developed knowledge of risk management, legislation, compliance, policies and procedures relevant to this position 
  • A passion for encouraging participation in sport, in particular athletics, and active living to students
