Founded in 1936, Gordon Rugby Club is one of Australia’s most respected and successful rugby institutions. With a proud history, a thriving juniors pathway, a strong women’s program, and an engaged community, the Club is entering an exciting growth phase both on and off the field. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead the organisation into its next chapter.

The Role

The General Manager is the senior executive of Gordon Rugby Club and is responsible for delivering the Club’s strategic, financial, operational, and community objectives. This position plays a central leadership role across all facets of the organisation including administration, rugby operations, partnerships, stakeholder relations, commercial growth, and governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic & Operational Leadership
  • Lead the implementation of the Club’s strategic plan and long-term development goals.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring the Club functions efficiently and professionally.
  • Drive continuous improvement across governance, compliance, systems, and administration.

Rugby Operations & Pathways

  • Support coaches, team managers, and performance staff across senior, women’s and junior programs.
  • Strengthen high-performance structures, talent pathways, and player welfare initiatives.
  • Foster a cohesive culture that connects juniors, seniors, volunteers, and the wider community.

Commercial & Financial Management

  • Develop and manage annual budgets, reporting, and financial controls.
  • Grow commercial revenue through sponsorships, partnerships, grants, and fundraising.
  • Oversee merchandising, match-day operations, and rugby events.

Stakeholder & Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Rugby Australia, NSWRU, partners, sponsors, local councils, volunteers, and the broader rugby community.
  • Represent the Club professionally across all public, corporate, and media engagements.
  • Drive community engagement programs to strengthen the Club’s reach and impact.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Proven leadership experience in sports administration, club management, or a related field.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including budgeting and revenue generation.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, coaches, boards, and community stakeholders.
  • Experience in rugby or high-performance sport is highly desirable.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A passion for community sport, development pathways, and the growth of rugby.
