Description

Surfing Australia invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified and passionate individuals to join the Surfing Australia Para Surfing Committee. This committee plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of Para Surfing in Australia, contributing to high-performance outcomes, inclusive participation, and long-term sport sustainability.

We seek individuals with a commitment to inclusion, experience in adaptive sport or related disciplines, and a desire to help grow Para Surfing from grassroots to the international stage. Committee members will provide strategic oversight, specialist input, and community advocacy across five key areas.

This is an unpaid volunteer role that requires estimated 1-3 days per month of time commitment.

Please indicate which of the following positions you are applying for:

1. PARTICIPATION & COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE

Champions the interests of Para Surfers within Boardrider Clubs, surf schools, disability support providers and community coaching programs. Advises on grassroots development, inclusive participation, and the real-world experience of Para surfers across Australia.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Grassroots surf community experience, especially in adaptive contexts
  • Understanding of participation barriers and pathways
  • Strong local networks and advocacy ability

2. EVENTS REPRESENTATIVE

Oversees the planning, delivery, and strategic alignment of Para Surfing events in Australia, ensuring they are world-class, inclusive, and foster national visibility.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Demonstrated success in sports event management
  • Familiarity with Para sport competition formats
  • Ability to engage sponsors, venues, and delivery partners

3. HIGH PERFORMANCE REPRESENTATIVE

Ensure our national Para Surfing team is optimally prepared for success at the ISA World Para Surfing Championships, Olympic pathway events, and other international competitions.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Expertise in high-performance sport systems
  • Experience supporting elite Para or adaptive athletes
  • Knowledge of performance coaching, sport science and classification systems

4. PARTNERSHIPS, GRANTS & FUNDRAISING REPRESENTATIVE

Leads efforts to secure investment and funding to deliver Para Surfing outcomes, including philanthropic support, grants, commercial partnerships, and government engagement.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong track record in fundraising and partnership development
  • Knowledge of sports funding models and social impact investment
  • Skilled communicator with networks across sectors

5. OLYMPICS 2032 REPRESENTATIVE

Drives Surfing Australia’s strategic campaign to see Para Surfing included in the Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games. Leads national and international advocacy for sport inclusion and policy recognition.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Deep understanding of Paralympic sport systems and inclusion campaigns
  • Strategic thinker with lobbying or government relations experience
  • Passionate about equity, legacy and system change for adaptive athletes
