Position Overview

Craigieburn Basketball Association (CBA) is seeking an experienced and motivated Operations Manager to lead the operational performance and sustainable growth of one of Victoria's fastest-growing basketball associations.

Reporting directly to the Board of Management, the Operations Manager will provide leadership across the Association's operations, competitions, programs, events and commercial activities. The role is responsible for developing people, improving systems, building strategic partnerships and identifying opportunities that strengthen the Association for the future.

Working alongside the Board, the Operations Manager will lead an established operations team while driving participation growth, commercial outcomes and operational excellence.

The Operations Manager is expected to operate at both a strategic and operational level. While maintaining oversight of the Association's day-to-day operations, the primary focus of the role is to lead people, improve systems, identify growth opportunities, and ensure the long-term sustainability of Craigieburn Basketball Association

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & People

Lead and develop the Association's operations team by:

  • Providing leadership, mentoring and support.
  • Conducting regular one-on-one meetings with staff.
  • Facilitating fortnightly operational team meetings.
  • Building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Reviewing staff performance and assisting the Board with future workforce planning.
    • Developing systems that reduce reliance on individuals and strengthen organisational capability.

Strategic Planning

Lead the operational planning of the Association by:

  • Developing and maintaining a rolling 12–18 month operational calendar.
  • Planning competitions, programs and major events well in advance.
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Providing regular operational updates and advice to the Board.
  • Leading operational projects that improve efficiency and member experience.

Participation Growth

Drive participation growth by:

  • Developing new participation pathways.
  • Expanding basketball opportunities throughout Melbourne's northern growth corridor.
  • Building strong relationships with schools and community organisations.
  • Developing new competitions and programs where demand exists.
  • Supporting initiatives that improve accessibility and inclusion.

Commercial Growth

Support the long-term sustainability of the Association through:

  • Developing new sponsorship opportunities.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with existing partners to ensure long-term viability.
  • Identifying grant opportunities.
  • Strengthening the Association's branding and digital presence.
  • Ensuring programs and competitions remain financially sustainable.

Financial & Operational Management

Provide oversight across the Association's operations by:

  • Developing annual operational and program budgets.
  • Monitoring financial performance.
  • Ensuring programs and competitions deliver positive value.
  • Supporting facility operations and venue management.
  • Overseeing operational delivery of competitions and events.

Stakeholder Relationships

Develop and maintain strong relationships with:

  • Basketball Victoria
  • Hume City Council
    • Stadium Management
  • Local Schools
  • Sponsors/Partners
  • Community Organisations
  • Domestic Clubs
  • Local Government Representatives

Represent Craigieburn Basketball Association professionally across all stakeholder groups.

Major Projects

Lead or oversee key Association projects including:

  • Craigieburn Tip-Off Tournament
  • Stadium redevelopment initiatives
  • New participation programs
  • Community events

Success in this Role

Success will be measured by:

  • Growth in participation across all programs.
  • Increased sponsorship and grant revenue.

  • Essential Skills & Experience

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Proven leadership and people management experience.
  • Strong operational planning and organisational skills.
  • Experience managing projects, events or sporting programs.
  • Financial literacy including budget preparation and monitoring.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to think strategically while maintaining attention to operational detail.
  • Experience developing partnerships and identifying growth opportunities.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement.

*Experience within basketball or community sport is desirable but not essential.
