BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

The Head of Partnerships is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic management, servicing and long-term retention of Football Australia’s commercial partner portfolio. 

This role oversees the end-to-end delivery of contractual partnership rights across national teams, domestic competitions and grassroots programs, ensuring partnerships remain mutually beneficial, high-performing and sustainable. It plays a key role in maintaining Football Australia’s reputation as a benchmark for partnership excellence within the Australian sporting landscape. 

Leading a dedicated partnerships team, the role focuses on driving partner satisfaction, maximising value from existing relationships and identifying opportunities for portfolio growth. 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES 

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Develop and lead the overarching strategy for management, servicing and retention of Football Australia’s partnership portfolio 
  • Serve as the senior relationship owner for principal and Tier 1 partners 
  • Oversee the delivery of all contractual rights and entitlements across national teams, competitions and programs 
  • Ensure development and execution of annual account plans aligned to partner objectives and ROI expectations 
  • Lead renewal strategy across the existing partner portfolio, identifying growth and upsell opportunities 
  • Provide clear leadership, mentoring and performance management for the partnerships team 
  • Ensure high standards of service delivery, accountability and partner experience 
  • Provide regular reporting on partnership performance, delivery milestones and renewal forecasts 
  • Work closely with Marketing, Events, Digital and other internal teams to ensure integrated partner delivery 
  • Maintain strong governance, risk awareness and brand alignment across all partnership activations 

ROLE OUTCOMES/ DELIVERABLES 

Success in this role will see: 

  • High partner retention rates and successful renewal of multi-year agreements 
  • Accurate, timely and consistent delivery of all contractual rights and benefits 
  • Strong levels of partner satisfaction measured through formal and informal feedback 
  • Identification and delivery of incremental revenue opportunities within the existing partner base 
  • Football Australia partnerships that enhance brand equity and protect the integrity of the game 
  • Strong collaboration between partnerships, commercial, marketing and delivery teams 
  • A mature, disciplined and high-performing partnership management function 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

  • Extensive experience in senior partnership, account management or sponsorship leadership roles 
  • Strong commercial acumen, including understanding of sponsorship valuation and contract management 
  • Proven experience leading and developing high-performing teams 
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, including ability to influence at C-Suite and Board level 
  • Strong problem-solving capability with experience managing complex delivery environments and partner expectations 
  • Experience working within a national or international sports organisation is desirable 
  • Knowledge of brand strategy, digital activation and consumer engagement is desirable 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Tertiary qualification in business, marketing or a related commercial discipline 
  • Postgraduate qualifications (e.g. MBA) or executive leadership training is desirable
