With 1,000–2,500 members and a vibrant community footprint, RBI delivers junior and senior domestic competitions, representative pathways, development programs, Queensland State League representation and the nationally recognised NBL1 Rockets and Cyclones teams. The Role 

Reporting to the Management Committee, the General Manager provides executive leadership, operational oversight and strategic implementation across all areas of the Association. This is a hands-on, people-focused role requiring exceptional organisational capability, strong business acumen and a deep commitment to community sport. 

This is not a traditional 9 to 5 position. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate: 

  • effective time management and ability to prioritise competing demands to self-manage a safe and responsible work/life balance 
  • flexibility to attend afterhours meetings 
  • availability to oversee weekend competitions, carnivals and high-performance fixtures 

You will lead and develop a capable operational team, work closely with Board-chaired subcommittees and ensure the safe, compliant and effective delivery of all RBI programs and activities. 

 What You’ll be Doing 

  • Lead the implementation of RBI’s Strategic Plan 
  • Develop and implement annual operational plans 
  • Strengthen governance, compliance and risk management across the Association 
  • Oversee financial performance, budgeting, reporting and commercial operations 
  • Manage day-to-day operations, competitions, programs and facility utilisation 
  • Lead, mentor and develop employees and volunteers
  • Ensure delivery of domestic competitions, representative programs, development pathways and NBL1/QSL2 operations 
  • Build strong relationships with affiliate Associations, Basketball Queensland, Council, sponsors, schools, clubs and community partners 
  • Oversee marketing, communications and brand presence 
  • Ensure safe, compliant and high-quality service delivery across all activities

About You 

You will bring: 

  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience in sport, community, government or corporate environments 
  • Strong business acumen and proven financial management capability 
  • A sound understanding of critical compliance identification, planning and execution 
  • Experience managing competitions, programs or service delivery 
  • High-level communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills 
  • Experience leading staff and volunteers 
  • Ability to work autonomously, make sound decisions and manage competing priorities 
  • A commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive and high-performance culture 
  • A current Blue Card (or ability to obtain one) 

Experience in basketball administration or high-performance sport is desirable but not essential.
