The General Manager - Football is responsible for the end-to-end leadership, management and performance of Williamstown Football Club’s VFL and VFLW football programs.

The role provides strategic and operational accountability across football operations, coaching and development, list management, high performance oversight, people leadership, compliance, budgeting and culture. The General Manager - Football acts, together with the senior coaches, as the most visible and senior football leader within the Club, contributing to the Club’s broader strategic direction and representing the football program internally and externally.

Key responsibilities in the role include:

  • End-to-end oversight of the football program vision, strategy and operations
  • Direct reporting line to the CEO with regular engagement with the Board and relevant sub-committees
  • Accountability for the effective functioning of all football department areas across VFL and VFLW including
    • Football operations and compliance
    • Coaching, Player and Staff development
    • List management and recruiting
    • High performance and medical oversight
    • Player and staff wellbeing

We are seeking a high performing, people centric leader who is passionate about driving a culture of success and the development of our football program and individuals (players, coaches and staff) who seek to be their best and achieve their highest potential while living the values of the Williamstown Football Club and its community. We are looking for a leader who can navigate between being 'hands-on' in their execution of the role while putting frameworks, processes and structures in place which are sustainable to ensure they can provide strategic direction and a future focus on continuing to improve our high performance environment. Key attributes required are:

  • Capacity to lead diverse, high-performance environments
  • A values driven leader with strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-management capabilities
  • Strategic and organisational planning and operational capabilities with an ability to balance the demands of day to day football operations with long term strategic thinking
  • Detailed knowledge of the VFL (AFL) competition and operating environment and football competition structures across Victoria and nationally
  • Confidence operating at Executive and Board level and with managing key external stakeholder relationships
