Melbourne Storm is an Australian professional rugby league club playing in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition. We are the only NRL team based in Victoria and have experienced substantial growth and success in our short history. 

About the role 

The Head of Community will be responsible for the planning and delivery of the Club community strategy across football and commercial programs. This role is crucial in delivering Melbourne Storms social impact initiatives by engaging the broader community and connecting them with programs in rugby league that make a difference.  

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role will identify the challenges and opportunities for rugby league in Victoria and develop and execute strategies and initiatives to address and leverage these, working across multiple programs with numerous and diverse stakeholders, whilst respecting unique cultural diversity will be crucial. 

Due to the nature of our industry, this role will be required to work on game day and at nominated Club events, which will require some weekend and evening availability, and some occasional travel. 

As the Head of Community, you will: 

  • Develop and deliver a Community Engagement strategy to help promote Storm and the game of rugby league in Victoria to existing and new markets.  
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop a clear calendar of events and milestones that assist with planning and delivery of community events and programs  
  • Drive internal support for the strategy through player appearances, marketing, promotions and commercial events. 
  • Engage with key community leaders, organisation’s and individuals to create programs that will have social impact 
  • Engage with NRL, NRL Victoria and Touch Football Victoria to develop strong relationships with their key stakeholder groups. 
  • Identify new program and event opportunities with key internal and external stakeholders that will provide commercial support and growth. 
  • Expand on and develop new concepts with NRL Victoria and Touch Football Victoria to promote growth of the game. 
  • Create and implement appropriate evaluation and measurement capability within the community programs. 
  • Support the Chief Operating Officer with briefings/education to players, football department and commercial department staff in relation to key brand and marketing messaging to ensure consistent public approach. 

The successful candidate will possess: 

  • Tertiary Qualification in Community Development, Communications, Events, Marketing related fields. 
  • Minimum of 5 years in similar role with the proven ability to manage and delivery community programs. 
  • A sound ability to apply project and event management principles, including planning and engagement strategies, risk management, reporting and evaluation to ensure effective outcomes. 
  • Experience in Event Management, ideally in entertainment and/or sport or not-for-profit will be highly regarded. 
  • An ability to think and work with both a strategic and operational focus.
