The Brisbane Lions is seeking an experienced Head of Academy to lead the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of our Academy. This role plays a pivotal part in shaping the next generation of elite athletes and strengthening our connection to the community.
Reporting to the General Manager of Football, the Head of Academy is responsible for driving the Academy’s vision of developing elite talent through a holistic coaching and development program. The role will oversee coaches, regional managers, high performance and support staff, while building strong pathways for athletes from grassroots to AFL and AFLW level.
Key Responsibilities:
Shape and implement the Academy’s strategic direction across both long, and short-term.
Lead, support, and develop Academy staff to ensure programs are delivered to the highest professional standard; while creating a pipeline of professionals.
Strengthen relationships with players, parents, schools, community clubs, and key stakeholders to enhance engagement and support.
Oversee all Academy operations, including training schedules, camps, competitions, and financial management.
Identify, attract, and secure emerging talent throughout Queensland.
Partner with AFL, AFLQ, and aligned schools to expand participation and build strong talent pathways.
Work in close collaboration with AFL and AFLW programs to drive Academy player development and recruitment outcomes.
What We’re Looking For:
An exceptional people leader.
AFL Coaching Accreditation - minimum Level 2.
Experience managing school or underage sporting programs.
Strong knowledge of the AFL landscape.
Excellent leadership and relationship-building skills.
A current Driver’s Licence and Blue Card (or ability to obtain).
Working with Children Check and previous experience working with children
