Role Impact
This role plays a pivotal part in advancing Volleyball NSW’s purpose to grow the love of the game and participation throughout the State. By contributing to the delivery of strategic objectives - including expanding access to play, increasing engagement and membership, and driving sustainable growth - the position directly influences the future of volleyball in NSW and its contribution to the sport across the country.
This role will help shape inclusive, high-quality experiences for participants at all levels, from grassroots to elite pathways. Through ongoing collaboration and partnership with our stakeholders, this role will ensure volleyball is accessible in more locations, supported by strong infrastructure, and promoted through innovative programs and events. This work will empower communities, strengthen affiliate relationships, and elevate the sport’s visibility and impact.

Individual Accountabilities
The role is responsible for leading, delivering, and continuously improving key initiatives that support the strategic goals of Volleyball NSW. Core accountabilities include:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Lead the development and execution of strategic plans aligned with the vision and objectives of Volleyball NSW.
- Translate organisational goals into actionable programs and initiatives that drive participation, engagement, and growth.
- Monitor performance against KPIs and provide regular reporting and insights to the Board and executive team.
Team & Culture Leadership
- Inspire, lead, and develop a high-performing team aligned with the Volleyball NSW values of fun, teamwork, passion, and inclusivity.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable team culture that supports innovation and continuous improvement.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to build capability across the team.
Program & Participation Growth
- Design and implement programs that increase participation across NSW.
- Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, inclusive volleyball experiences across NSW.
- Collaborate with affiliates and partners to expand the reach and impact of Volleyball NSW.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with affiliates, clubs, schools, local councils, and community organisations.
- Represent Volleyball NSW in key forums and partnerships to advocate for the sport and identify new opportunities.
- Leverage stakeholder relationships to support infrastructure development and funding.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee the planning and delivery of events, competitions, and activations that enhance the volleyball experience.
- Ensure operational processes are efficient, scalable, and aligned with best practice.
- Ensure financial sustainability and accountability for budget, resources, and reporting.
Pathways & Talent Development
- Support the development of holistic athlete, coach, referee, and administrator pathways.
- Work with the Head of Pathways and other stakeholders to align grassroots and elite development programs.
- Contribute to a system that identifies and nurtures talent across the state.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure all programs and activities comply with relevant policies, regulations, and risk management frameworks.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants and staff.
- Contribute to organisational reporting, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Individual Values Contribution
As the Chief Executive Officer of Volleyball NSW, the CEO plays a critical role in embodying and championing the organisation’s core values. Through strategic leadership, cultural stewardship, and daily decision-making, the CEO ensures these values are embedded across all levels of the organisation.
Role-related Requirements
- Degree in Sports or Business Management or a minimum of 5 years relevant senior administrative roles experience.
- Solid financial management capabilities including the understanding of accounting structures and interpretations of financial statements and budgets.
- Experience in staff management and leadership.
- Ability to work independently, as an inspiring leader and under direction of the Board where appropriate.
- Ability to develop effective and respectful working relationships with people at all levels
- Excellent personal presentation and high level written and oral communication skills.
- Understanding of competition and event protocol, structures and reporting.
- Experience with sport competition administration and sport event delivery.
- The ability to analyse material and make recommendations.
- Managing competing priorities while maintaining quality of work.
- Knowledge of non-profit organisations and the Australian sporting landscape, in particular volleyball.
- Experience working within the NSW Volleyball community highly desired, but not essential.
- Demonstrates flexibility in managing personal time and after-hours work when needed.
- Current drivers’ licence with access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to pass appropriate Government screening required for this role.
