Founded in 1960 Volleyball WA (VWA) is a not-for-profit organisation ensuring all funds generated from our programs are fed back in to the sport of Volleyball. We are responsible for the development and execution of VWA strategic objectives as outlined in our Strategic plan and constitution.
We partner with businesses and organisations to promote Volleyball as ‘the game for all’ to achieve our mission to support WA communities to play the world sport of Volleyball in an inclusive and fun environment.
The Position:
As the CEO you are responsible for the execution of VWA’s strategic objectives, operational management, fostering stakeholder relationships, driving participation and performance outcomes and providing consistent high-level advice to the Board on operations, policy and planning.
Reporting directly to the board, along with your five direct reports, you oversee the day-to-day operations of the business and a small and dedicated team of 20 staff all working towards the achievement of the outcomes in the VWA 2022 - 2025 Strategic Plan.
Your key responsibility areas will include:
- Providing executive leadership and operational management of VWA.
- Drive the achievement of strategic and commercial objectives.
- Ensuring governance and compliance.
- Ensuring responsible financial management and management of organisational capability.
- Communication and stakeholder management.
- Administration and support.
- Marketing, communications and brand management.
- Volleyball programme and service delivery.
- Effective management of competitive volleyball in WA.
- Ensuring workplace health and safety.
About You:
You will have the drive to continue the work done by our outgoing CEO in expanding the reach and impact of our sport across WA, maintaining and nurturing the strong connections that have been developed with clubs and communities, and ensuring ongoing elevated visibility of our sport. Specifically, you can demonstrate:
- You have proven experience in a senior leadership role within a dynamic environment.
- You have ideally gained your experience in the not-for-profit sector and / or sport and recreation industry within WA (although this is not essential).
- You are an exceptional communicator and negotiator and are skilled at stakeholder management engaging effortlessly with staff, the community and all levels of government.
- You have demonstrated success in Strategic Risk and Operational Planning,
- You have strong financial literacy including demonstrated experience in developing and managing organisational budgets and financial processes and procedures.
- You will be able to provide examples of your ability to make commercially sound business decisions, ideally within the context of a not-for-profit organisation.
- You have a strong commitment and understanding of governance and prior experience working with a Board of Directors.
- Sport is not a standard 9-5 industry so you will need flexibility and an exceptional work ethic.
- You remain cool when working under pressure with the ability to effectively delegate and support your team with managing workloads.
- It goes without saying that you always act with personal credibility and integrity and will inspire these qualities from those around you.
- You will have relevant tertiary qualifications and / or at least five years’ experience in a senior management or CEO role ideally in the sport and recreation industry in Australia.
