Are you a legal professional ready to make a meaningful impact in the world of highperformance sport? As the Legal Counsel at the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS), you'll play a key leadership role - providing strategic, independent, and solutions-focused legal advice that enables our people to do their best work, while meeting their legal and governance obligations.

What you can expect in this role:

  • Delivering high-quality legal advice and documentation across all levels of the QAS, with a focus on contract law, employment law, commercial agreements, and property matters.
  • Leading key governance functions, including privacy, human rights, and right to information (RTI) frameworks and policies.
  • Advising staff on commercial negotiations and legal implications of strategic decisions, while preparing and interpreting contracts, MOUs, and other legal instruments.
  • Coordinating instructions to Crown Law, external firms, or counsel—ensuring clarity on context, risks, and legislative requirements.
  • Supporting the development and interpretation of portfolio legislation relevant to QAS operations.
  • Managing and contributing to projects involving legal research, policy development, legislative review, and compliance improvement initiatives. Essential Requirements

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification
  • National Police / Criminal History Check
  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • A lawyer who has been admitted to practice for at least five years; and
  • You have, or be immediately eligible to obtain, a practising certificate in Queensland
