AusCycling is the nation’s peak riding and cycling body, representing more than 5 million Australians who ride bikes. Formed in 2020 from 19 state, territory, and national bodies, AusCycling is responsible for programs, projects and initiatives that encompass BMX, Cyclo-cross, Esports, Track, Mountain Bike, Road, Para and recreational.
We help school kids learn to ride, we stage more than 500 events each year, we nurture clubs and create pathways, and we are responsible for the training, welfare, and performance of Australia’s Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth Games and World Championships athletes.

We unite disciplines and stakeholders to create experiences that grow participation, support high-performance pathways, and showcase Australia on the global stage—all while delivering lasting value to host partners, fans, and the sport.
Position Purpose
The Head of Events - Road and ESports is responsible for the strategic leadership, planning, and delivery of national and international events within these disciplines.
This role ensures alignment with AusCycling’s commercial, high-performance, and participation objectives by delivering exceptional event experiences that drive impact across community, elite, and commercial outcomes.
Reporting into the Executive General Manager – Major Events, this position plays a critical role in shaping the discipline’s national calendar, building event capability, and developing enduring partnerships with clubs, host cities, and funding bodies.
Responsibilities
The Head of Events (Road & ESport) will lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of AusCycling’s Road, Gravel and ESports event program.
1. Event Strategy & Delivery
- Lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of the Road, Gravel and ESport events portfolio including National Series, Championships, and Oceania events.
- Oversee end-to-end operational planning, event logistics, and risk management, in collaboration with delivery partners including the ProVelo Super League.
- Work with the EGM – Major Events to support and supervise the delivery of the international events program for road and gravel, including coordination with organisers and delivery partners.
- Champion continual improvement of the Road, Gravel and ESports Event Operations Framework.
- Ensure compliance with AusCycling’s policies, technical regulations, and the National Integrity Framework.
2. Stakeholder & Partner Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clubs, venues, suppliers, state tourism bodies, and government agencies.
- Work closely with the Commercial team to fulfill partner deliverables and enhance event value.
- Collaborate with the Pathways and High Performance teams to ensure events contribute meaningfully to athlete development.
3. Community Engagement & Participation
- Support the growth and sustainability of the Road cycling ecosystem by strengthening partnerships with community organisers and event promoters, in collaboration with State Operations Managers.
- Collaborate with Marketing & Media to raise visibility and awareness of events through campaigns and content.
- Grow and build relationships with private promoters in the Road space. Work together to create sustainable events and delivery partnerships, where relevant.
- Integrate targeted participation opportunities into marquee events.
4. Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor and support a national team of staff, volunteers, and technical officials (commissaires).
- Contribute to a strong, inclusive and high-performing team culture across the Major Events unit, including the development and adoption of best practice project management frameworks.
5. Reporting & Insights
- Monitor and report on event performance, participation metrics, financial outcomes, and operational learnings.
- Use insights to guide strategic decisions and inform future event planning and stakeholder engagement.
6. Technical
- Maintain the Road and ESports Regulations including the review process.
- Advise Technical Committee on regulation changes for Road, Gravel, and Esports
- Assist in commissaire assignments and regulation enforcement
- Lead delivery of AusCycling Sports Director course including convoy driver training
7. Administration
- Oversee registration of UCI events and Teams in the UCI calendar and Data Ride respectively
- Work with major events team and fellow discipline leads to champion best practice approach to event delivery and ways of working.
