Loreto College Ballarat is a vibrant rowing club consisting of over 80 students and a supportive parent community. Throughout the 2024/25 season, we achieved significant success including winning the Head of the Lake Regatta and the overall girls' aggregate trophy (J.H. Netherway Cup) and placing 2nd overall at Head of School Girls Regatta in Geelong and successful State and National campaigns.
Situated in the enviable position on Lake Wendouree's (Ballarat) doorstep, we are seeking to appoint a new Head of Rowing to further elevate our program and build on our recent success.
About the Role
The Head of Rowing is responsible for all aspects the College's Rowing Program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coaching, managing, programming and execution of all training sessions for all rowing crews; mentoring, training, and managing rowing staff; coordination of the rowing calendar and overseeing maintenance of rowing equipment and facilities. The Head of Rowing will also be responsible for talent identification and contributing to build the profile of our rowing program ensuring the College's values are embedded and promoted within the sport.
The Head of Rowing will work closely with the Director of Staff and Operations, Director of Sport, Deputy Principal, Rowing Staff, Students and the Friends of Rowing committee. This role requires a highly skilled, reliable and motivated person with availability to work outside of school hours and weekends for rowing camps, regattas and training sessions. Hours of duty for this position will vary from term to term based upon the Rowing season.
About You
To be considered for this position, we are seeking applicants who have a passion for rowing combined with proven coaching experience and demonstrated experience managing rowing programs.
You will also posses the following:
- A commitment to, and a clear understanding of the ethos of a Catholic School and the Loreto charism of Mary Ward
- Level 2 Rowing Coaching Accreditation preferred
- An enthusiastic and inclusive approach to coaching with the ability to motivate participation from differing levels and abilities and creating a child safe environment
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills along with previous experience managing budgets
- Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
- A high level of self-awareness and the ability to maintain positive relationships
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills, maintaining a balanced perspective when making decisions
- Ability to work flexibly under minimal supervision
- Level 2 First Aid Qualification (including Anaphylaxis Accreditation)
- Current Driver and Marine Boat Licences with the ability to tow boats to Regattas (as required)
- A current National Criminal Record Check and VIT or WWCC
- Coaching experience within an educational setting will be highly regarded
