Description

The Australian Sports Commission is embarking on the Green and Gold decade. An exciting time filled with international sporting competitions on home soil, including the Men’s and Women’s Rugby World Cup, and culminating in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We have an ambitious new Strategic Vision and we need the best players on our team to help us deliver real results for the sporting sector and all Australians.

Are you up for the challenge?

About the team –

The Onsite Performance Support and Camps team is a specialised multidisciplinary team that works in partnership with National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) to create high-quality daily training and camp environments at the AIS campus. Supporting elite, pre-elite and development programs, National Training Centres and intensive rehabilitation activities, the team brings together expertise across areas including Strength & Conditioning, Nutrition, Food Services and Psychology.

Working closely with sports, the team develops and delivers tailored performance support that responds to each sport’s specific needs and desired outcomes. It offers practitioners the opportunity to work collaboratively across disciplines and sports, applying their expertise in a dynamic high performance environment and making a direct contribution to athlete preparation and performance.

About the role –

As a Strength & Conditioning Coach, you will work at the heart of the AIS high-performance environment, supporting National Sporting Organisation camps and daily training environments on campus. You will work directly with athletes and coaches to design and deliver tailored Strength & Conditioning programs that respond to the needs of each sport and help athletes prepare and perform at their best.

As part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will use contemporary evidence, performance insights and your professional judgement to adapt programs, solve performance challenges and contribute to integrated athlete performance plans. You will also have opportunities to share your expertise, support developing practitioners and contribute to innovation and continuous improvement in Strength & Conditioning practice across the Australian high-performance sport system.

This is a hands-on role where you can work across different sports and performance environments while making a meaningful contribution to helping Australian athletes win well.

About you –

You are a self-motivated and collaborative Strength & Conditioning practitioner who brings sound professional judgement, personal accountability and confidence working independently within high-performance environments.

As a Strength & Conditioning Coach, Grade 5, will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Sport and Exercise Science, Human Movement, Strength & Conditioning, or a related performance discipline.
  • Current ASCA Professional Level 2 accreditation, or an equivalent recognised professional accreditation.
  • Experience independently planning, delivering, monitoring and evaluating Strength & Conditioning programs for developing and/or high-performance athletes.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret athlete testing, monitoring and performance data and translate insights into effective programming.
  • The ability to apply evidence-informed practice and professional judgement when working with individual athletes and groups.
  • A collaborative approach to working with athletes, coaches and multidisciplinary performance teams to achieve shared performance outcomes.
  • Strong communication, relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to make technical information clear and relevant for different audiences.
  • A commitment to athlete safety, professional standards, continuous learning and contemporary Strength & Conditioning practice.

Additionally, as a Senior Strength & Conditioning Coach, Grade 6, you will bring:

  • Current ASCA Elite Level 3 accreditation, or equivalent recognised professional accreditation.
  • Significant experience leading the design, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of complex Strength & Conditioning programs within elite or high-performance sport.
  • Demonstrated advanced capability in analysing and integrating athlete, training and performance information to inform complex programming and performance decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide advanced technical advice and professional judgement, including resolving complex Strength & Conditioning and athlete-performance challenges.
  • Experience influencing coaches, athletes and multidisciplinary performance teams to integrate Strength & Conditioning within broader performance plans.
  • Demonstrated capability to mentor and develop practitioners, contribute to quality practice and lead improvement or innovation within Strength & Conditioning.
  • Highly developed communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, including working effectively with NSOs and senior performance stakeholders.

These positions will be offered as ONGOING.
