The PNG Chiefs are building rugby league's newest and most unique franchise, the first NRL club based outside Australia and New Zealand, entering the competition in 2028. We're seeking an experienced Head of Performance to lead the club's high-performance department from the ground up.
Lead and develop a multidisciplinary performance team across strength and conditioning, sports science, nutrition and performance analysis.
Design and implement performance standards, systems and programs supporting athlete preparation, wellbeing and training adaptation.
Oversee physical preparation of the inaugural NRL squad ahead of the 2028 season.
Monitor training load, physiological and psychological wellbeing through internal and external systems.
Manage performance data and reporting to inform coaching and squad planning.
Own the performance department budget and ensure NRL compliance and qualification standards are met across staff.
Build the department's operating rhythm and culture as a foundation function of a new club
What we're looking for:
Minimum five years' experience in athletic performance, sports science or high-performance sport, including leading multidisciplinary teams
Proven ability to build and scale a performance function, not just run an existing one
Strong relationship management across athletes, coaching staff, executives and external partners
Comfortable operating in a start-up sporting environment with the ambiguity that comes with it, and an adaptable, roll-up-your-sleeves work ethic
A genuine passion for developing PNG nationals within the program, with a track record of building local talent and capability
Willingness to relocate to Port Moresby and build a life in Papua New Guinea for the length of the contract
