Opening late 2026, the new Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre is set to become the heart of health, fitness and fun in our community. We are now recruiting Part-time Permanent Health and Fitness Trainers to help deliver safe, engaging and high-quality fitness services across our Leisure and Aquatic centres.
The role
We are seeking passionate and qualified Health and Fitness Trainers to join our team on a permanent part-time basis.
In this role, you will support members in their health and fitness journey, deliver group fitness and one-on-one training sessions, assist with fitness assessments and programs, and help create a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for our community.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Deliver group fitness, one-on-one training, fitness assessments and programs.
- Engage with members and support participation in health and fitness services.
- Maintain safe, clean and well-presented gym and class areas.
- Set up and pack down equipment safely.
- Complete required documentation, including pre-exercise questionnaires.
- Work collaboratively with the Leisure and Aquatic Services team.

You will have:
- Certificate III in Fitness, minimum qualification.
- Certificate IV in Fitness, if facilitating personal training.
- Current CPR and Senior First Aid certificates.
- Current Working with Children Check, if you are 18 years or over.
- Fitness registration with an Australian-based organisation
- Experience delivering customer-focused fitness services, including group fitness or aqua classes.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
- Evidence of full unrestricted working rights in Australia.
Recruitment process
Pre-employment checks will include reference checks, verification of qualifications and clearances, and a medical assessment. Applicants should ensure their Certificate III in Fitness, CPR, First Aid, fitness registration and Working with Children Check, are current and ready to provide.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $71,820 per annum pro-rata (Grade D, Step 1) + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
Where you perform work facilitating Group Fitness Classes, you will be paid $70.00 per hour and where you perform work facilitating Personal Training, you will be paid $60 per hour or $30 for a 30-minute Personal Training session (which includes your ordinary hourly rate, any applicable penalty and an additional payment). Should you facilitate a group fitness class for less than 1 hour, you will then be paid the pro-rata hourly rate.
