- Coach elite NBL athletes and pursue a PhD simultaneously
- New coaching era under Will Weaver and Markus Klusemann
- Based in South Brisbane, QLD - purpose-built HP facility
You don't just want to coach athletes. You want to study what makes them better, and prove it.
This is not a standard S&C role. This is a position where you prepare elite NBL athletes for the demands of professional basketball, and pursue a PhD embedded inside the club's high performance environment at the same time.
The Brisbane Bullets are entering a new chapter. Will Weaver has been appointed head coach, bringing NBA experience from the Brooklyn Nets. His first hire was Markus Klusemann as Head of Performance. The high performance programme is being rebuilt with genuine ambition, and this role is part of that foundation. If you want to be part of building something from the ground up inside one of Australia's most storied basketball clubs, keep reading.
About Us
Since 1979, the Brisbane Bullets have been part of the fabric of this city. Brisbane's oldest professional sporting club and a proud member of the National Basketball League - we're not just a basketball club. We're a community, a culture, and a genuine passion for the sport and the people who love it.
The Role
You own the physical preparation of our athletes, from pre-season through to finals.
- Design and deliver strength and conditioning programmes tailored to elite NBL competition
- Manage athlete training loads across pre-season, in-season and off-season to optimise performance
- Collect, analyse and interpret performance data using AMS and diagnostic technologies
- Collaborate with physio, sports medicine and coaching staff on injury prevention and return-to-play
- Integrate AI and emerging technologies into day-to-day programming and workflow
- Support game day operations, warm-ups, in-game monitoring and post-game recovery
- Undertake a PhD focused on strength and conditioning or athlete performance, embedded within the club
Who We're Looking For
You are someone who sees the connection between research and real-world performance, and you want to live inside both.
- Honours or Master's in Exercise Science or related field
- ASCA accreditation or CSCS (or working towards)
- Experience with elite or sub-elite athletes in HP settings
- Proficiency with AMS and diagnostic technologies
- Strong applied research capability and PhD eligibility
And the non-negotiables - you take ownership of athlete outcomes, not just programme delivery. You hold the standard in the gym and on the court without being told. You are eligible to undertake a PhD and genuinely want to contribute to the research environment, not just tick a box. You hold a current Queensland Blue Card and are legally entitled to work in Australia.
What's on Offer
- A PhD embedded inside an elite NBL high performance environment
- Purpose-built facility in South Brisbane with FIBA-approved court
- Work under a world-class HP team led by Professor Stephen Bird
- Be part of a new coaching era with genuine ambition
- Three championships, 46 years of history, and a club that is building again
