Shelford Campus 

Opening in 2027 in the heart of Caulfield, Shelford Campus will be the newest Junior School of Caulfield Grammar School. The campus will initially offer exceptional education for Prep and Years 4–6, before progressively growing into a full Prep to Year 6 Junior School. This represents a once-in-a-career opportunity for a founding teaching team to shape the culture and community from the ground up, delivering high-impact learning in an outstanding purpose-built environment. 

The Role   

The Shelford Campus Head of PE & Sport will play a defining role in establishing a high-quality, inclusive Physical Education and Sport program that reflects the School’s values, culture and commitment to student wellbeing and excellence from the outset.  

Reporting to the Head of Shelford Campus and working closely with the School Director of Sport, you will provide vision and leadership for PE and Sport across the Junior School, ensuring students experience a highly engaging and developmentally appropriate program. 

You will lead and support PE and Sport teachers, building staff capability through coaching, modelling and professional learning, while fostering a collaborative culture that values participation, skill development and positive sporting experiences. Maintaining an active teaching presence, you will model best practice in Physical Education and promote inclusive, safe and engaging learning opportunities. 

Central to this role is the design and delivery of high-quality PE curriculum aligned with best practice in pedagogy, assessment and reporting. You will also oversee Junior School sport programs, events and co-curricular sporting opportunities, contributing to strategic planning and the ongoing development of PE and Sport across the School. 

This is an ongoing teaching contract, with a 3-year Position of Responsibility as Head of PE & Sport (Junior School), based at our new Shelford Campus. 

Key Duties 

  • Develop and enhance teaching and learning in Physical Education and Sport across the Junior School, establishing high-quality practice as Shelford Campus opens. 
  • Lead the design and implementation of a sequential, inclusive PE curriculum aligned with best practice in pedagogy, assessment and reporting. 
  • Provide strategic oversight of Junior School PE and Sport programs, including curriculum delivery, events and co-curricular sporting opportunities. 
  • Supervise, coach and coordinate PE teachers and sport coaches, building capability through collaboration, modelling and professional learning. 
  • Oversee and coordinate Junior School sporting events and House activities including the coordination of fixtures, venue bookings, transport and the effective management of coaching staff 
  • Promoting participation, community connection and positive sporting experiences. 
  • Plan and coordinate House Sport experiences, APS representative events and termly fixtures effectively. 
  • Participate in APS Primary Sport Coordinator meetings and be an active participant tin that learning network. 
  • Attend all termly?APS?Sport Coordinator’s meetings? 
  • Work collaboratively with Campus Leadership and teaching staff to ensure PE and Sport programs align with whole-school wellbeing priorities. 
  • Promote student engagement, inclusion and lifelong participation in physical activity  
  • Identify and support student talent, developing extension pathways that include opportunities to represent the school across competitions.  
  • Manage PE & Sport resourcing, spaces and budget, ensuring effective use of resources and facilities. 
  • Contribute to strategic planning and the ongoing development of PE and Sport across the School. 
  • Demonstrate visible leadership through active teaching and involvement in Campus life. 
  • Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours. 

Skills and Experience  

  • Teaching qualification with specialist qualifications or experience in Physical Education and Sport. 
  • Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration. 
  • First Aid - Level 2 and Anaphylaxis qualifications. 
  • Demonstrated experience teaching and leading PE and Sport programs in a Junior / Primary School setting. 
  • Strong curriculum knowledge and understanding of inclusive, developmentally appropriate PE practice. 
  • Experience leading, mentoring and supporting teaching staff. 
  • Highly developed organisational, communication and leadership skills. 
  • Experience in the management of administration across sports programs and events.  
  • Experience working collaboratively within leadership teams and school communities.
