About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Duty Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre (MUSAC) and Sports Fields (MUSF). This leadership role is critical in ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our members, guests, and staff.
You’ll be responsible for managing daily venue operations, acting as the Chief Warden in emergency situations, supporting staff on shift, and overseeing compliance with pool safety standards and maintenance protocols. Your ability to lead calmly, problem-solve effectively, and provide exceptional service will be essential.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage facility operations and support staff across MUSAC and Sports Fields during rostered shifts.
- Conduct opening and closing procedures and monitor venue safety and maintenance.
- Oversee pool plant operations and water quality management to ensure compliance with NSW Health guidelines.
- Lead emergency response and first aid incidents in accordance with established protocols.
- Assist with bookings, customer engagement, chemical deliveries, and conflict resolution.
- Cover lifeguard and other staff breaks as needed.
This role requires staff to be able to regularly perform manual handling tasks, as per centre operational procedures.
Essential Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in the aquatic industry, including wet and dry leisure centre operations and pool plant management,
- Strong working knowledge of RLSSA GSPO guidelines and NSW Swimming Pool and Spa Advisory standards,
- Sound understanding of WHS, emergency procedures, and public safety requirements in sport and aquatic facilities,
- Proven ability to manage and support a diverse team, including lifeguards, during high-pressure situations,
- Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills,
- Strong commitment to a high level of customer service with effective time management, and organisational skills,
- Demonstrated leadership capability, with the ability to influence others and work collaboratively in a team environment; and
- Excellent written communication skills with attention to detail.
Essential Qualifications & Other Specific Requirements
- SISSS00110 Aquatic Technical Operator Certificate
- SISSS00129 Pool Lifeguard Licence
- HLTAID011 First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Current NSW Working with Children Check (please provide clearance number in resume, if you have one)
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence
- Must be available to work opening and closing shifts on weekdays and weekends
- As a qualified pool lifeguard, you are required to complete and submit a Health and Fitness assessment upon commencement and annually
- Ability to operate a Recycled Water System
