Introduction
Baseball NSW leads, manages, promotes, advances and encourages the growth of Baseball in NSW.
The Board of Baseball NSW comprises eight directors, five “Elected Directors” and three “Independent Directors”. The term for each Director is two years, or the balance of the remaining term in the case of a casual vacancy being filled. As a result of recent retirement of an Elected Director,
Baseball NSW is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified candidates wishing to be considered for appointment to fulfil the casual vacancy. The successful candidate will be appointed for the remainder of the current term ie until the Baseball NSW Annual General Meeting in late 2027 at which time they may stand for election.
Qualifications
General qualifications sought of Directors:
- Qualifications in Law, Governance, Finance or Business (preferred)
- Previous experience in a directorship role in a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organisation (preferred).
- Knowledge of the laws and legislation relating to non-profit organisations.
- Strong understanding and working knowledge of the constitution, rules, by-laws, policies and procedures.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with particular emphasis on public speaking, advocacy and teamwork.
- Management skills and an ability to collaborate with committee members.
- An understanding of change management and strategies to engage and consult with stakeholders to achieve goals
- Sound judgement and proven decisiveness
- Basic Financial acumen
- Experience in sport is not necessary, however a willingness to gain an understanding and knowledge of the role, sporting context and activities of the business is essential
Specific qualifications sought:
- Expertise in digital technology, marketing and data management, specifically in cyber security and the use of technology including artificial intelligence (highly desirable); or Experience in High Performance Sport as player, coach, scout, manager or other transferrable to baseball (desirable)
Applicants need not have experience in or exposure to the sport of baseball and do not need to be Individual Members of the League.
Applicants must declare any position they hold in a baseball organisation, including as an office bearer, Director or a paid appointee and an intention to resign from such position if appointed to the League Board.
Board Meetings
The Board meets eight (8) times per year in person with virtual options available for those not in the Sydney metropolitan area.
Roles
Some of the roles as a Director of Baseball NSW include the following:
- Attend and actively participate in monthly Board of Management meetings Attend the League’s Annual General Meeting (late September to early November)
- Represent Baseball NSW at events where relevant, Committee meetings or other such forums whenever possible.
- Utilise skills, experience and knowledge to support the growth and success of baseball with NSW
