This is a critical role responsible for shaping our narrative, protecting and enhancing the Club’s reputation and driving best-in-class communication that influences how the Club is understood, represented and trusted.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Executive General Manager, Brand, Marketing and Communications, you will lead the Club’s corporate communications function, ensuring a clear, consistent and compelling voice across media, stakeholders and the broader AFL landscape - helping shape the Club’s position within the competition.
Central to this role is aligning key internal stakeholders and talent to a unified narrative and translating that into impactful external communication that builds trust, reputation and influence.
You will operate at both strategic and tactical levels - advising senior leaders, managing high-stakes issues, delivering proactive communications aligned to the Club’s direction, and acting as a trusted advisor in moments that matter most.
You will thrive in a fast-moving, and often unpredictable environment, bringing clarity, judgement and composure during high-pressure moments.
The role also leads the Corporate Communications Lead, driving performance, alignment and capability within the function.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Narrative, Strategy & Influence
- Develop and deliver club communications strategies, including overarching narrative and 12-month earned media plan, that aligns stakeholders and amplifies the Saints story
- Identify and maximise opportunities to strategically position the Club within the AFL landscape
Media & Reputation
- Lead media engagement, build strong relationships and manage high-pressure situations
- Provide senior counsel on reputational risk and crisis communications
Talent & Stakeholder Alignment
- Align Players, Coaches, Executives and Board Members to clear, consistent messaging that supports the Club’s strategic priorities and reputation
- Build trust and credibility with stakeholders operating in high-pressure environments
One Club Integrated Delivery
- Plan and execute PR campaigns to amplify positive stories about the club, its people , key initiatives such as Marquee Games help to promote and position the club as industry leading
- Partner with Marketing, Content and AFL and AFLW departments to deliver cohesive, end-to-end campaigns
- Drive alignment, execution discipline and continuous improvement across communications
- Contribute to commercial outcomes for the Club, ensuring communications activity supports revenue, partnerships and brand growth
ABOUT YOU
You are a senior communications leader with experience in high-profile environments where scrutiny is constant and performance matters.
You bring:
Strong media management capability, with experience operating in organisations subject to significant public and media attention
- Proven ability to build trust and credibility with senior stakeholders in high-pressure environments
- Demonstrated experience managing key talent and spokespeople, balancing individual needs with organisational priorities and values
- A track record of developing and delivering communications strategies that gain buy-in from key internal stakeholders and translate into effective execution
- Strong experience in writing and communicating with influence
- The ability to identify and maximise storytelling opportunities to elevate brand, reputation and key messages
- Experience crafting targeted messaging aligned to strategic objectives and tailored to diverse audiences
- A highly collaborative approach, working cross-functionally to plan, execute, review and continuously improve campaigns
- Strong judgement, adaptability and composure in complex, fast-moving environments
