Description

Boccia is a unique sport, specifically designed to include people with significant physical impairments including the most severely affected. Boccia was originally played by athletes with cerebral palsy but now includes athletes with other impairments that affect motor skills. The sport is contested at national and international levels, having made its Paralympic debut in 1984. Most recently, it celebrated success with two silver medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Boccia Australia is looking for an experienced Skill Acquisition and Learning Design Lead responsible for leading and supporting the design, integration, and application of evidence-informed skill acquisition, learning design, and game-based approaches within the Daily Performance Environment (DPE).

The role will drive the development of a contemporary throwing skill development framework, support the integration of universal and class-specific principles, and enhance the efficiency and impact of tactical and technical education across coach and athlete development pathways. Working collaboratively with coaches and the interdisciplinary team, the role will ensure performance data, technology, and learning design principles are effectively embedded into planning, delivery, and review processes.

This is a part-time 0.5 - 0.6FTE position contracted to 30 June 2027. 

Key outcomes of the role include; 

  • A clearly articulated and embedded throwing skill development framework based on a class impairment profile that improves alignment between skill principles, training design, and competition performance
  • Review and updated skills testing across all classifications
  • Coaches supported to confidently apply evidence-informed learning design principles

Essential Requirements

  • Human Movement / Coaching / Exercise / Sports Science Degree
  • PhD or equivalent (or in the process of completing) in Exercise Science, Movement Science or Sports Science, Sports Psychology or a related field
  • ESSA Accredited Sports Scientist (ASpS) Level 1
  • Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check is required, consistent with the state and territory jurisdiction and organisation’s policies
  • Demonstrated experience supporting skill acquisition and learning design in high-performance sport environments
  • Ability to work effectively with coaches, athletes, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Strong understanding of game-based approaches, representative learning design, and constraints-led methodologies
  • Experience integrating performance data into planning, delivery, and review of athlete development
  • Experience working across Para or classification-based sport systems
  • Experience with remote coaching technologies and digital learning platforms
