Handball Australia (HA) is seeking expressions of interest from experienced professionals to join its Board. This is a voluntary, appointed role is to fill a casual vacancy for up to 14 months. This is an opportunity to contribute strategically to the growth and sustainability of Handball in Australia in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
Handball Australia is the governing body for Handball in Australia (Handball, Beach Handball and Wheelchair Handball), a member sport of the AOC and currently recognised by the ASC. HA works with our Member States, clubs, volunteers, officials and athletes to build a sport that is safe, inclusive, well-governed and sustainable.
We are seeking a Director with demonstrated experience in:
Law, policy or governance, including risk, compliance in stakeholder environments; or
Strategic finance, with experience in financial sustainability, risk oversight and long-term planning.
Role Responsibilities
Board Directors will:
act in the best interests of the organisation and its members
contribute to strategy and long-term sustainability
provide governance oversight (finance, risk and compliance)
uphold high standards of integrity and ethical leadership
support and advise the Chief Executive Officer while maintaining appropriate accountability
Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will bring:
legal or strategic finance expertise
strategic and systems thinking capability
sound judgement and independence
strong stakeholder engagement skills
Board or senior governance experience (desirable)
alignment with the values and purpose of Handball Australia
