Gymnastics Victoria (GV) is pleased to announcement that call for nominations for Elected Director positions are now open. Nominations are invited for the position of Elected Director by using the below details and forms.

GV is a leading state sporting association, and the governing body for gymnastics in Victoria.  Gymnastics in Victoria is a strong industry that develops essential early years foundation skills and provides pathways for athletes through seven Gymsports.

The Elected Director position is a voluntary position. The Elected Director position holds a term of two years, with a maximum limit of 10 consecutive years.

GV is committed to the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of all children accessing our programs and services including indigenous children, those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and children and adults with disability. GV has a zero tolerance approach to any form of child abuse. We support the rights of children and we will act immediately to ensure an environment is maintained where children and all participants feel safe, respected, valued and empowered at all times.

Gymnastics in Australia (Gymnastics Australia and all affiliated state bodies) adopted the National Integrity Framework on 4 April 2022, and thereby the adopted the Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy and the Member Protection Policy.

As such GV will be required Elected Directors to undergo child safe screening processes, which includes reference checks, and will be supported through an induction process.

GV has a zero tolerance of racism and expectations that staff and volunteers will act on incidents of racism. GV values inclusion and diversity we promote and support everyone, especially children, to express their culture and enjoy their cultural rights. As such GV warmly welcomes nominations from individuals from a range of diverse backgrounds.

Nomination Process

Nomination form and supporting documentation must be sent to the GV CEO by the COB 30 March 2026. At the 2026 AGM there are 3 Elected Positions vacant.

Nominations forms must be filled out and signed by the nominee, a proposer and a seconder. A proposer and seconder can be either a member club, Technical Committee or a current Director, however the proposer and seconder can not be from the same club or technical committee.

Prior to completing nominations form please take the time to read and review the provided Elected Director Position Description.

Nominees are asked to provide supporting documentation with their nominations which includes; Cover letter, short statement about themselves and CV which showcases and highlights the nominee skills, experience and/or qualification in line with the provided Elected Director Position Description and details below.

The Board seeks candidates whose skills align with the strategic plan and complement the current skill mix of the Board in one or more of the following areas:

Legal

  • Qualifications in Law and experience in its application in NFP's, preferably in the sports sector.

Gymnastics and Sports Management

Experience in, and/or demonstrable understanding of:

  • community sport and club participation
  • high performance sport models and outcomes
  • gymnastics technical leadership, including judging and / or coaching
  • trends in sports management within / outside gymnastics

Government relations / political advocacy

  • High level networks and a track record in strategic policy and government influence in sport and related policy, including a detailed understanding of government decision-making and political processes

Child Safeguarding

  • Experience in the field of child protection, child safeguarding and child wellbeing in a variety of contexts (not necessarily sport)

High Performance

  • Oversight and involvement with high performance sporting pathways

Further, it is encouraged that people with the below experience and qualities also apply:

  • Prior management financial services and business growth experiences in a not-for-profit or commercial enterprise;
  • Experience in member-based, community and multi-stakeholder organisations;
  • Understanding of the unique challenges involved in the governance of sport;
  • Willingness to maintain visibility amongst the gymnastics community in Victoria through regular attendance at gymnastics events and other functions; and
  • Completion of the AICD Company Directors Course and membership of relevant professional or industry associations.

Election

At the 2026 GV AGM, scheduled for 15 May, an election will be held for GV Voting Members to elect Directors (from the received nominations) to the vacant positions on the GV Board.

Eligibility

Please refer to GV constitution clause 13.2. However, a person who is an employee of GV or is a  director or employee of GA, may not hold office as a GV Director.
