Purpose
The Member Welfare & Conduct Officer is responsible for upholding the child safety and supporting the wellbeing of all members within the Diamond Valley Basketball Association (DVBA).
This position oversees the implementation of child safety standards, management of incidents and complaints, and administration of tribunal and conduct processes.
The role ensures that all members, staff, and volunteers are supported in a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment and that DVBA’s practices align with Child Safe Standards, Basketball Victoria policies, and the Association’s own Welfare and Conduct Framework.
Duties
Oversee and implement DVBA’s Child Safety and Member Welfare policies, ensuring compliance with current legislation and Basketball Victoria requirements.
Act as the primary point of contact for all welfare, safety, and conduct matters involving clubs, players, coaches, officials, and parents.
Manage and coordinate incident reports, complaints, and follow-up processes in accordance with DVBA procedures.
Oversee tribunal administration, including coordination with the DVBA Tribunal Panel, maintaining records, and ensuring outcomes are communicated appropriately.
Support club delegates and team officials in understanding welfare and conduct expectations.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of all welfare and incident-related correspondence.
Provide reports to the General Manager and Board on welfare and conduct trends or areas for improvement.
Support education and awareness initiatives promoting wellbeing, inclusion, and respectful behaviour across all DVBA programs.
Work collaboratively with the Head of Basketball, Programs & Inclusion, and Competitions teams to ensure consistent standards of behaviour and support.
Contribute to ongoing review and development of DVBA policies and procedures in relation to member conduct and child safety.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications or demonstrated experience in Child Safety, Welfare, Social Work, Community Services, Psychology, or related discipline.
Understanding of Child Safe Standards and experience implementing safeguarding practices.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters.
Strong administrative and record-keeping skills with attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to remain impartial and exercise sound judgement under pressure.
Current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC).
Current Driver’s Licence.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends when required (e.g., during competitions or tribunal hearings).
Current and valid WWCC.
Ability to work weekends within scope of role.
Desirable Criteria
Experience working within sport or community-based organisations.
Familiarity with Basketball Victoria Tribunal and Disciplinary Procedures.
Qualifications in Conflict Resolution, Mediation, or Mental Health First Aid.
Knowledge of reporting and data management systems related to member welfare.
Experience managing incident response, conduct investigations, or complaint resolution in a community or sporting context.
