  • $37 per hour (including 25% casual loading) + 12% Superannuation

About the role

The Lifeguard sits within the Libraries, Recreation and Waterways Branch of the Community and City Services Division and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the safety, wellbeing and enjoyment of all visitors to City of Melbourne aquatic facilities.

This role plays a key part in supporting the City’s commitment to providing inclusive, safe and vibrant spaces that encourage active and healthy living. As a Lifeguard, you’ll help ensure all community members can confidently enjoy our pools and aquatic environments.

A little more about the role

  • Supervise the aquatic environment and ensure the safety of all patrons

  • Identify and minimise risks through proactive supervision and effective communication

  • Educate customers on water safety and respond appropriately in emergencies

  • Contribute to the day-to-day operation of aquatic facilities by following procedures and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

What your experience might look like - Key Selection Criteria 

  • Demonstrated ability to comply with operating procedures while contributing to process improvements

  • Experience supervising patrons in an aquatic facility, or willingness to gain this experience

  • Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) or ability to obtain one prior to commencement

  • Current Pool Lifeguard Certificate, or willingness to obtain within four weeks of appointment

  • SISCAQU202A – Perform basic water rescues

  • SISCAQU306A – Supervise clients in an aquatic facility or environment

  • SISCAQU307A – Perform advanced water rescue

  • HLTAID009 – Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation

  • Current Provide First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain within four weeks of appointment

  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid

  • HLTAID010 – Provide basic emergency life support
