About the role
The Gym Instructor position sits within the Libraries, Recreation and Waterways Branch and offers an exciting opportunity to deliver innovative and inclusive health and fitness services that help our community thrive.
This role plays a key part in creating welcoming, safe and motivating fitness experiences for our members, supporting the Active Melbourne vision to inspire people to be more active and engaged in their everyday life.
Based at Melbourne City Baths, you’ll be part of a passionate team that works collaboratively to foster healthier lifestyles, provide excellent customer service, and promote programs that enhance participation and community wellbeing.
To be successful in this role, you must be available to work across opening, closing and weekend shifts, with evening availability essential.
A little more about the role
- Deliver high-quality customer experiences aligned with Active Melbourne and Council objectives
- Conduct gym consultations, pre-exercise screenings, program design and on-shift group training sessions
- Supervise the gym floor to ensure patron safety, provide advice and handle first aid incidents as required
- Support customer engagement through program promotion, membership retention strategies and referrals to allied health professionals
- Complete administrative and operational tasks including cleaning, maintenance checks and reporting risks or issues
- Promote inclusion and accessibility, ensuring all community members feel welcome and supported

You are a skilled fitness professional who enjoys working directly with customers to support their health and wellbeing goals
You may also be:
- Passionate about fostering inclusive and welcoming spaces
- Confident in delivering both one-on-one and group-based fitness sessions
What your experience might look like - Key Selection Criteria
- Certificate III in Fitness and Certificate IV in Personal Training (minimum requirement)
- Current Health and Fitness Registration with a relevant organisation
- Experience conducting fitness assessments and developing personalised exercise prescriptions
- Strong understanding of retention strategies and customer engagement approaches
- Demonstrated ability to work safely, follow procedures and contribute to continuous improvement
- Current Provide First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain within four weeks of appointment)
- Working with Children Check
- Desirable: Experience with systems such as TechnoGym Pro MyWellness or Perfect Gym.
