In partnership with Rowing Australia (RA) implement and deliver the Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS) Rowing program to support the goals and objectives of the National Performance Pathways Program (NPPP) as well as the goals and objectives of the TIS. Appointment to this role is on a fixed term full time basis for 3 years.

Tasmanian Institute of Sport Head Rowing Coach:

  • Lead the Tasmanian Institute of Sport Rowing Program – create a daily training environment that develops athletes in the pathway to  Olympic and Paralympic success.
  • Shape the future of rowing – work in partnership with Rowing Australia and Rowing Tasmania to deliver innovative coaching, talent identification, and performance strategies.
  • Inspire and support athletes to Win Well – foster holistic development, wellbeing, and integrity as the foundation for sustainable performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver a high-quality daily training environment for Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS) rowing athletes, using Rowing Australia’s technical and performance frameworks.
  • Coach and develop athletes through training programs, competition planning, and individual performance plans to help them succeed at national and international level.
  • Use modern coaching tools and methods to track and improve athletes’ technical, physical, and mental performance.
  • Work closely with Rowing Australia’s high-performance team to ensure programs, athlete development, and coach development are aligned nationally.
  • Lead the overall management of the TIS rowing program, including planning, facilities, budgets, and support services.
  • Identify and support talented rowers with Olympic and Paralympic potential, guiding their pathway toward national categorisation.
  • Provide technical leadership and collaborate with the Tasmanian rowing community – including Rowing Tasmania, clubs, schools, and parents.
  • Communicate regularly with national and state coaches to support athlete development and selection processes.
  • Promote and model TIS child safety and wellbeing standards, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Oversee health and safety across training venues, camps, and program activities.

Essential Requirements

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Current Provide/Perform CPR
  • National Police / Criminal History Check
  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Drivers Licence
  • Current Boat Licence
  • Completion of Sport Integrity Australia's Education Module - National Integrity framework course
  • Completion of Sport Integrity Australia's Education Module - Anit-Doping Fundamentals course
  • Completion of Sport Integrity Australia's Education Module - Annual Update
  • Completion of Sport Integrity Australia's Education Module - Whereabouts Course
  • Completion of Sport Integrity Australia's Education Module - Competition Manipulation and Sports Gambling Course
  • Completion of Sport Integrity Australia's Education Module - Safe and Effective Coaching of Young Athletes in High Performance Sport
  • Completion of Sport Integrity Australia's Education Module - Safeguarding children and young people in Sport Induction

Desirable Criteria

  • Level 2 Coaching Accreditation
  • Qualified Strength & Conditioning Coach
  • Coaching certification in Rowing (Level 2) and with other sporting disciplines at national and/or international level would be deemed an advantage
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge and/or qualification in either sports performance services, sports science, strength & conditioning, performance analysis
