Don't miss this rare and exciting opportunity to join our Pathways team at Basketball Victoria (BV). The successful candidate will provide leadership, knowledge and support to affiliate members of BV throughout the State of Victoria. Working within a team of four Head Coaches, you will work in conjunction with each other to run the Player Pathways 

About Us 

Basketball Victoria (BV) is the peak body for the sport of Basketball in Victoria. The broad objectives of BV are to provide for the advancement, encouragement, conduct, promotion and administration of Basketball in Victoria. We are a member driven governing body, providing a range of services, leagues and competitions for over 140 affiliated associations.

In addition to supporting our affiliated Basketball associations, BV delivers a number of participation programs making basketball Everybody’s Game, as well as player, coach and technical official development programs to encourage the development of socially desirable attitudes and values towards physical fitness, skill acquisition and performance pathways.

Key responsibilities for this role include [but are not limited to];

  • Oversee the National Performance Program (NPP), the State Performance Program (SPP) the State Development Program (SDP) at the (6) academy hubs throughout Victoria and the respective State Teams program. 
  • Develop, maintain and lead an optimal training environment for athletes, to deliver opportunities for Victorian representatives in national and international arenas. 
  • Identify talent, lead and provide assistance and support to identified athletes, coaches and affiliated BV member associations. 
  • Continuous review and improvement of program inclusions and outcomes.
  • Develop and oversee specialist talent identification programs and conduct training sessions/individual skills sessions as required. 
  • Develop and maintain relations with key stakeholders to advance the aspirations of our athletes and coaches, ensuring that the BV Pathways remains world class, with a focus on athlete wellbeing. 
  • Oversee all medical and recovery needs arrangements for training and competitive events.  
  • Head Coach Talent Identification Camps and SDP selection camps as well as manage various BV development camps. 
  • Maintain respective athlete and coach depth-charts of identified individuals in the Victorian pathway. 

The role will require regular travel around Victoria and on occasion interstate and overnight stays. The hours are flexible to meet the requirements of the role. 

Preferred but not essential experience:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in supervising staff and managing a team. 
  • Previous coaching experience at an elite level. 
  • Demonstrated technical and tactical Basketball knowledge.
  • Highly organised with the ability to be self-motivated, responsive and flexible in an environment with time pressures and multiple priorities. 
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to groups in a positive and motivating manner. 
  • The desire to develop and educate others in the field of basketball and coaching. 
  • High level of emotional intelligence and a proven ability to build professional relationships with a large, diverse group of stakeholders, including strong existing relationships with key influencers across Victorian Basketball.
  • The willingness to commit to the inclusion of all members of our culturally diverse community in the sport of Basketball. 
  • The ability to analyse data and make recommendations for future improvement. 

This role will be based at State Basketball Centre, Wantirna South although involves travel around Victoria and includes nights and weekend work overseeing activity. Employees will be reimbursed for travel expenses. 

Qualifications:

  • A tertiary qualification in a sports field or a related discipline. 
  • Current WWCC 
  • Current Driver’s Licence 
  • Coach Accreditation - Association Level at a minimum 

Desirable

  • Experience in a sport, peak-body or NFP setting.  
  • A level of understanding into the operations and commercial aspects of Basketball. 
  • Ability to prepare and monitor annual budgets for direct areas of responsibility.  
  • Appropriate qualifications in sport and/or business. 
  • First Aid qualifications.
