  • Join a collaborative, values-driven team with exceptional facilities

Shore is a leading Anglican Day and Boarding School, emphasising excellence in academic, cultural, and sporting pursuits and fostering integrity in moral and spiritual development in a Christian environment. Established in 1889 as a leading comprehensive school for the education of boys, Shore welcomed girls to the Early Learning Centre and K, 1, 2 Preparatory School at its Northbridge campus in 2003. The rich history and traditions of Shore have powerfully shaped the school, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

The Head of Athletic Development is responsible for the design, implementation and oversight of Shore’s athletic development strategy. This includes long-term athlete development, strength and conditioning, injury management, and the promotion of athlete wellbeing.

The role will work closely with the Sportsmaster, Head of Sport, PDHPE staff, MICs of Sport, and external professionals to ensure our students are supported with high-quality programs that reflect current best practice in youth athletic development

As our Head of Athletic Development, you will:

  • Lead the development and delivery of Shore’s Long-Term Athlete Development framework
  • Oversee the physical testing and monitoring of student-athletes, including injury minimisation strategies
  • Supervise gym operations, including movement correction and exercise technique
  • Support the PDHPE curriculum through S&C programme delivery and assessment
  • Monitor student wellbeing and workload across premier sporting teams
  • Develop and implement appropriate athlete pathways
  • Provide professional guidance to Strength & Conditioning staff
  • Liaise with medical practitioners, coaches, and parents to ensure holistic support
  • Contribute to operational planning and manage the Athletic Development budget
  • Coordinate staffing rosters and management of the Strength & Conditioning staff
  • Support the ongoing use and development of the RAI Grant Centre

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A degree in Exercise and Sports Science or a related field (postgraduate qualifications desirable)
  • ASCA Level 2 accreditation (Level 3 highly desirable)
  • Extensive experience in athletic development and strength & conditioning, preferably in a school or youth elite context
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to manage programs, people, and facilities
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Current First Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis, and Working with Children credentials
  • A strong alignment with Shore’s values and educational philosophy

Benefits for you:

  • A high-profile leadership opportunity within a respected independent school
  • The ability to influence and lead long-term athletic programming
  • Access to purpose-built facilities, including the state-of-the-art RAI Grant Centre
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment
  • Opportunities for ongoing professional learning and development
  • Contribution to the growth of a values-driven, high-performance culture
  • Competitive remuneration package aligned with experience and qualifications

Term of Employment:

This is a full-time, permanent position. Due to the seasonal demands of the school’s co-curricular programme, hours may fluctuate across the year.

Some periods, particularly during peak sport seasons, will require increased time commitments, balanced by quieter periods where hours may be reduced.

Staff are expected to actively support the School's Christian Ethos.

Sydney Church of England Grammar School is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. We require all applicants to undergo an extensive screening process prior to appointment.
