The Newcastle Knights are currently inviting expressions of interest from passionate and motivated individuals to join our Junior Pathways Program for the 2026 season. We are seeking dedicated team members across a range of key support and performance roles, including: 

  • Head Coach 
  • Assistant Coach 
  • Team Manager 
  • Sports Trainer 
  • Strength & Conditioning Coach 

These roles support the delivery of our elite Junior Representative Programs, including the Andrew Johns, Laurie Daley, Harold Matthews, SG Ball, Lisa Fiaola and Tarsha Gale Squads. 

At the Newcastle Knights, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all Children and Young People. We have robust recruitment and screening procedures to ensure only the most suitable people are engaged with us. Applicants will be required to undergo the following screening prior to appointment: 

  • Verification of identity 
  • Comprehensive reference checks 
  • A valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance 
  • A National Criminal History Check, with a satisfactory outcome 

Any offer of engagement is conditional on the applicant returning satisfactory screening results. We will not engage any person in a child-related role who does not meet our screening requirements. 

About the roles:

Head Coach 

Coach the Knights Way by creating a positive learning environment that reflects our club values. Lead a culture where constructive feedback is part of daily practice and where detail, discipline and development are non-negotiables.  

  • Plan and deliver structured, high-quality training sessions focused on skill development, detail and effort 
  • Communicate regularly with Pathways Management, providing updates and insights 
  • Lead, support and mentor assistant coaches to ensure program alignment and coaching consistency 
  • Provide individualised, constructive feedback to all players to drive development and improvement 

Assistant Coach 

Support the Head Coach to deliver the Knights Way. As an Assistant Coach, you’ll help bring our coaching philosophy to life through detail, communication and a commitment to player development. This role is ideal for someone wanting to grow as a coach while making a meaningful impact within an Elite Pathways environment. 

  • Support the planning and delivery training sessions 
  • Reinforce team principles, values and standards 
  • Provide individual feedback to players
  • Assist with video analysis, training reviews and game preparation 
  • Ensure alignment with Head Coach and program goals to ensure consistency across all sessions 
  • Attend all training sessions, game days, and key program meetings 
  • Role model professional behaviours and communication at all times 

Team Manager 

Oversee the off-field coordination of the team, ensuring all logistics, documentation and communication are delivered at a professional standard to support players and coaching staff. Key responsibilities include: 

  • Coordinating all off-field requirements for training and games 
  • Maintaining accurate team and player records 
  • Managing team kit and equipment 
  • Communicating effectively with the Pathways Operations Manager 
  • Ensuring all players and staff adhere to the Code of Conduct and escalating any issues to the Pathways Operations Manager 
  • Supporting the Head Coach and team staff with timely and clear communication throughout the season 

Sports Trainer 

Provide critical support in injury prevention, hydration and operational assistance on training and match days. This role also involves: 

  • Assisting with field and equipment setup/pack down 
  • Transporting team gear to and from venues in the Pathways Van as required 
  • Managing water and hydration during sessions 
  • Supporting the Team Physiotherapist with player strapping for injury support 

Strength & Conditioning Coach 

Assist in delivering physical development programs aligned with the Knights High Performance philosophy. Work closely with athletes to build strength, power, speed and conditioning. Responsibilities include: 

  • Assisting with session programming 
  • Monitoring athlete loads and wellness 
  • Attending all training and match days 
  • Contributing to program planning with the Head of Athletic Development 

General Availability Required:

  • Pre-season: 3 evenings per week 
  • In-season: 3 evenings per week + Game Day 

Ideal Candidates Will Have: 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Relevant experience or qualifications in their area of interest  
  • A team-first mindset and strong organisational skills 
  • An understanding of Rugby League and a passion for developing young athletes 

Qualifications (Role Dependent): 

  • Sports Trainers: Minimum Level 1 Sports Trainer Accreditation, First Aid & CPR, and demonstrated competence in player strapping and taping techniques 
  • S&C Coaches: Exercise & Sport Science degree (or studying), ASCA accreditation (or working towards) 

Remuneration 

Positions are offered on an honorarium basis, with amounts dependent on role and experience.
