The Combat Institute of Australia (CombatAUS) leads the High Performance programs for Australia’s Olympic Combat Sports of Judo, Taekwondo and Wrestling - with a mission to deliver podium success on the world stage.
Established as a collaborative High Performance partner, CombatAUS works hand-in-hand with Judo Australia, Australian Taekwondo, and Wrestling Australia, providing centralised leadership, expert technical coaching, athlete support servicing and a strong focus on wellbeing.
Backed by the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), we operate at the cutting edge of elite sport - uniting science, performance, and culture to unlock the potential of Australia’s best combat athletes as they prepare for pinnacle events.
We are currently in market for a High Performance Director to oversee the strategic direction and operational execution of our programs.
The Role
The High Performance Director (HPD) is a pivotal senior leadership role at CombatAUS, reporting directly to the CEO and sitting on the Executive Team. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of Olympic Combat Sports in Australia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Strategy & Delivery: Drive the strategic direction and daily execution of High Performance programs across Judo, Taekwondo, and Wrestling.
- Executive Leadership: Contribute to the CombatAUS Executive Team, influencing the broader organisational agenda.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong, trusted relationships with key partners.
- Represent CombatAUS: Act as a confident, credible ambassador who can clearly articulate strategy and foster alignment.
- Culture & Collaboration: Lead with integrity and energy - building rapport with athletes, coaches, staff and system partners.
- Business & Performance Management: Oversee planning, budgeting, operations and performance standards across all programs.
About You
You’re a proven leader with the capability to shape high performance environments and inspire those around you. Ideally, you bring:
- Proven leadership in managing high performing teams in complex, fast-paced environments.
- Exceptional stakeholder skills, with a track record of building trust and collaboration across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Experience in managing or administering High Performance sporting programs.
- A demonstrated ability to foster performance cultures that prioritise both excellence and wellbeing.
- Financial acumen, including oversight of budgets and investment frameworks.
- A strategic mindset paired with the ability to lead teams toward sustained international success.
Position Location
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia (Desirable). Other locations will be considered.
