The Level 1 Sports Trainer Course is the nationally recognised entry point into sports injury prevention and sideline care. Designed for club volunteers, teachers, coaches, parents, and those seeking paid sports trainer roles, this course equips you with the practical skills and clinical confidence to manage injuries, respond to emergencies, and support athlete safety across school, club, and event environments.
Participants complete an online learning component prior to a full-day, hands-on practical assessment delivered by expert sports medicine educators at the SASI Complex. This blended format ensures you arrive prepared and leave capable.
You will learn to:
- Recognise and manage common sporting injuries
- Provide immediate and appropriate sideline care
- Implement injury prevention strategies
- Manage concussion, head and spinal injuries
- Perform wound management and safe athlete handling
- Apply ankle, thumb and finger taping techniques
- Understand medical conditions relevant to sport

To become accredited, participants must complete both course components and hold current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009) certification.
Accreditation & Membership
Successful participants receive a nationally recognised Level 1 Sports Trainer Accreditation (valid for three years) and become a SASMA Sports Trainer Member.
