This is a specialist coaching role in our AFLW program, reporting to the AFLW Senior Coach. You will coach the craft and structure of your area, prepare and run training and meetings, develop a defined group of players, and contribute to opposition preparation and match day.
We have deliberately left the speciality open. Forwards, backline, midfield or stoppages. We want to hear from coaches at every level of Australian football, whether AFL, AFLW, state league, talent pathway or community, who are strong in their area of speciality and passionate about women’s football.
Where and how you can work
We are moving to our brand new facility in Thebarton at the end of the year, a purpose built home for our AFL and AFLW programs. Coaching in an AFL environment is demanding. Training nights, weekend match days and interstate travel are part of the role, so you will need the flexibility to meet them. The role is full time during the season. Outside the season we can be flexible and work the hours around your other commitments.
About the team
Reporting to the AFLW Senior Coach, you will join a coaching group of four, working alongside the other line and development coaches, high performance, medical and player development, with full access to the Club’s analysis, vision and sports science resources.
What you’ll be doing
- Coach the craft, structure and standards of your specialist area
- Design and run craft training that moves your group forward week to week
- Teach the game plan so players can apply it under pressure
- Review and code vision, and prepare opposition insight and match ups for your area
- Coach a defined group of players through direct feedback and tracked development plans
- Contribute on match day and to the post match review
- Work with high performance, medical and player development on load and availability
You’d be a great fit if you…
- Bring coaching experience from any level of Australian football and understand where the modern game is heading
- Can teach craft so it holds up on a match day
- Give honest feedback with care, and hold the standard when it would be easier not to
- Stay composed when the plan has to change mid game
- Want your own coaching reviewed and developed
- Have a genuine passion for women’s sport and want to grow your understanding of what it takes to coach female athletes well
