Description

The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) is seeking experienced Sport and Exercise Physicians to join our Performance Health network and contribute to delivery of world class athlete care.

As WAIS looks towards LA 2028, Brisbane 2032 and beyond, we are continuing to strengthen the way athlete health services are delivered across our high performance programs. We are seeking practitioners who are passionate about supporting athletes to perform at their best while prioritising long term health, wellbeing and sustainable success.

Working within a collaborative high performance environment, Sports Physicians play a critical role in supporting athlete availability, informed decision making and integrated healthcare alongside coaches and performance support practitioners, helping athletes progress towards Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship success.

About WAIS

The Western Australian Institute of Sport is the peak high-performance sporting organisation in Western Australia, proudly supported by the State Government and a member of the National Institute Network. Since 1984, WAIS has supported Western Australian athletes to achieve success at national and international levels, including Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship competition.

We work in partnership with National Sporting Organisations, State Sporting Associations, VenuesWest and the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport to deliver high quality daily training environments.

At WAIS, success is about winning well. While performance matters, how we achieve it matters just as much. Our culture is built on excellence, teamwork and respect, with genuine care for people at the centre of everything we do.

Our Performance Health Approach

WAIS is evolving its sports medicine service to provide greater accessibility, consistency and integration across athlete support services.

The model is designed to:

  • Improve athlete access to sports medicine services within daily training environments.
  • Strengthen collaboration between physicians, physiotherapists and other performance support practitioners.
  • Support timely clinical decision-making and efficient care pathways.
  • Improve continuity of care through shared clinical systems and communication processes.
  • Enable proactive management of athlete health and performance risks.
  • Deliver a consistent experience for athletes across WAIS programs.

Physicians engaged by WAIS become valued contributors within a broader multidisciplinary performance environment while maintaining their independent contractor status.
