The Role
The Scots College is seeking an energetic and passionate Casual Table Tennis Coach to deliver high-quality coaching and support the ongoing development of our Table Tennis program.
The primary purpose of this role is to develop the technical and tactical capabilities of our students while fostering a positive, inclusive, and performance-focused sporting environment. The Table Tennis Coach will deliver engaging training sessions, prepare students for competitions, and promote a culture of participation, sportsmanship, discipline, and personal growth that reflects the College’s values and expectations.
Key Accountabilities
- Coaching & Player Development: Plan and deliver structured, engaging table tennis training sessions that cater to a range of abilities. Sessions should develop fundamental and advanced technical skills, including footwork, stroke mechanics, serve and return variations, movement patterns, and match play.
- Technical & Tactical Development: Develop the students tactical awareness and ability to apply skills effectively in competitive environments. Prepare players for inter-school competitions through match-specific training, game analysis, and the development of individual playing strategies.
- Competition Preparation: Support the preparation and development of Table Tennis teams for inter-school fixtures and competitions. Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to help students perform confidently and demonstrate strong sporting behaviours.
- Culture & Mentorship: Model the College’s core values and contribute to a positive coaching environment built on respect, discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth. Build positive relationships with students and encourage participation and confidence across all skill levels.
- Session Delivery & Safety: Ensure training environments are safe, well organised, and appropriately supervised. Manage equipment setup and pack-down efficiently, maintain active supervision throughout sessions, and comply with all College student safety, child protection, and reporting protocols.
- Communication & Alignment: Work collaboratively with the Sports Department and other coaching staff to ensure the Table Tennis program is delivered consistently and in alignment with the College’s sporting objectives, policies, and values.
About You
You are a passionate and engaging Table Tennis Coach with the technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to inspire senior students and help them develop as both athletes and individuals. You possess:
- A proven track record of coaching Table Tennis at a competitive level, with demonstrated ability to develop high performing players and prepare teams for success.
- A strong understanding of table tennis technique, footwork, serve and return variations, stroke mechanics, and match tactics.
- The ability to plan and deliver structured, purposeful, and engaging training sessions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
- A commitment to developing student confidence, sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and enjoyment of sport.
- Strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage equipment and maintain a safe and productive training environment.
Special Requirements
The nature of this position requires the appointee to be available outside of normal school hours, including early mornings, after-school sessions, and occasional weekends, to deliver training sessions and attend inter-school fixtures throughout the sporting season.
The successful applicant must hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) and First Aid/CPR certification, or be willing to obtain the required certifications. The appointee is expected to participate fully in the sporting life of the College and uphold the College’s vision, mission, and values at all times.
