St George District Rugby League Football Club and the St George Illawarra Dragons are seeking an exceptional coaching leader to undertake the role of Male Pathways Coaching Lead and SG Ball Head Coach.
This is a unique full-time leadership opportunity responsible for driving the quality, alignment and success of the St George male development pathway. While serving as Head Coach of the SG Ball program, the successful candidate will also lead the broader male pathway from Development Squads through to Junior Representative Programs whilst ensuring alignment with the Dragons' coaching, performance and player development frameworks.
The role has been established through a strategic partnership between St George DRLFC and the St George Illawarra Dragons, with the shared objective of creating a genuine "Pathway of Choice" for players, coaches and families.
About the Role
Reporting operationally to the Football Manager, St George DRLFC, and working closely with the Head of Recruitment & Pathways, St George Illawarra Dragons, you will provide leadership and oversight across the entire male pathway system.
Key Responsibilities
Male Pathway Leadership
- Lead and oversee the St George male pathway from Development Squads through to Junior Representative Programs.
- Establish a consistent coaching and player development philosophy across all pathway teams.
- Provide leadership, support and mentoring to pathway coaches.
- Monitor coaching quality and player development outcomes across programs.
- Contribute to pathway planning, program reviews and performance reporting.
- Drive continuous improvement across the pathway environment.
SG Ball Head Coach
- Lead and manage the SG Ball program.
- Develop and implement annual training and competition plans.
- Create a high-performance environment focused on player development and success.
- Lead SG Ball coaching staff and support personnel.
- Provide individual player development feedback and progression planning.
- Prepare players for advancement into Dragons Academy and higher representative programs.
Dragons Pathway Alignment
- Implement Dragons coaching and player development principles throughout the pathway.
- Work collaboratively with Dragons coaching, recruitment, performance and pathways staff.
- Facilitate alignment across coaching, strength and conditioning, welfare and athlete development systems.
- Support the transition of players from St George programs into Dragons Academy and elite pathways.
Talent Identification & Recruitment
- Assist in identifying and developing emerging talent throughout the district.
- Support player recruitment and retention strategies.
- Maintain relationships with local clubs, schools and community stakeholders.
- Contribute to talent identification and succession planning initiatives.
Culture & Development
- Promote the values, heritage and identity of St George DRLFC.
- Foster a culture of accountability, excellence and continuous improvement.
- Support player welfare, wellbeing and holistic development.
- Build strong relationships with players, families, clubs and community stakeholders.
Post-Junior Representative Season Responsibilities
Following the Junior Representative season, the successful candidate will contribute to the broader Dragons pathway system through:
- Dragons Academy coaching and development programs.
- Individual player development initiatives.
- Pathway camps and talent development programs.
- Coach mentoring and education.
- Other agreed pathway and high-performance initiatives.
About You
Essential Requirements
- Proven coaching experience in elite junior representative, pathways or senior rugby league programs.
- Strong understanding of player development and talent pathways.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management capabilities.
- Ability to mentor and develop coaches within a pathway environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Current NRL Coaching Accreditation (or ability to obtain).
- Current Working With Children Check.
- Current Driver's Licence.
- Current First Aid and CPR Qualifications.
- Full Australian working rights.
Desirable
- Experience coaching within SG Ball, Jersey Flegg, NSW Cup or NRL systems.
- Experience working within an integrated pathway framework.
- Knowledge of contemporary coaching, performance and athlete development methodologies.
- Established connections within rugby league talent pathways.
