Description

About Us

History is being made in Perth! The Bears are coming to the NRL in 2027, and we’re looking for passionate people to help us build something incredible from the ground up. This is your chance to be part of the action, working behind the scenes of a professional sporting club as we prepare to roar onto the national stage.

If you love sport, thrive in fast-paced environments, and want to be part of rugby league history, this is your moment.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a creative, hands-on Creative and Content Manager to help define how Australia sees, hears and feels the Perth Bears. This is a rare chance to shape the visual and storytelling identity of a brand-new NRL club before its first game. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, you’ll lead the club’s creative direction across social, video, photography, campaigns and match-day content - while still getting hands-on with capture, editing and production. In this early phase you’ll be a player-coach: part strategist, part creative lead, part content producer, building the standards, templates and systems that future Perth Bears teams will inherit.

What You'll Do

Creative Direction & Brand Storytelling

  • Help define and protect the Perth Bears creative standard across social, digital, video, photography, EDM, website, merchandise, events, sponsorship and in-venue assets.
  • Turn the club’s brand into a living creative system: bold, polished, proud, fan-first, unmistakably Western Australian and respectful of North Sydney heritage.
  • Lead the creative thinking for major club moments, including player signings, jersey launches, membership campaigns, merchandise drops, partner campaigns, community activity and match-day build-up.
  • Develop clear content ideas, campaign territories, hooks and narratives that help the club stand out in a crowded sport and entertainment market.
  • Maintain a strong eye for detail across design, copy, editing, pacing, tone, photography, motion and platform fit.

Content Strategy & Platform Growth

  • Develop and manage a practical content strategy across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Meta, LinkedIn, X, website, EDM and future channels.
  • Ensure each platform has a clear role, audience purpose, rhythm and creative standard.
  • Work with the social media coordinator to turn the content plan into daily execution, while still leaving room for reactive content and cultural moments.
  • Identify content series, formats and recurring features that can build fan habit before the club enters the competition.
  • Use data, audience behaviour and fan sentiment to sharpen content decisions, not simply report on what has already happened.

Hands-On Content Capture, Editing & Production

  • Plan, capture and edit high-quality content across video, photography, short-form social, long-form storytelling, interviews, event content, behind-the-scenes and campaign assets.
  • Be comfortable using a phone, camera, microphone, lighting, editing software and social tools to get content moving quickly.
  • Create sharp edits for Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, social trailers, hype reels, partner content, membership content and merchandise campaigns.
  • Attend key club events, media opportunities, community moments, training activity, commercial shoots and match-day activations to capture content first-hand.
  • Build and manage a strong content library so footage, photography, templates, brand assets and campaign materials are easy to find and reuse.

Campaigns, Club Moments & Commercial Support

  • Help develop creative concepts and content plans for major launches, including jersey reveals, player announcements, ticketing, memberships, merchandise and partner activations.
  • Work with the partnerships team to deliver sponsor content that feels integrated, valuable and genuinely engaging for fans.
  • Support merchandise and membership conversion through strong creative, clear calls to action and channel-specific content.
  • Create content that can move across owned, earned and paid channels, including assets that support media, PR, presentations and partner reporting.
  • Help turn every major club moment into a measurable brand and commercial opportunity.

Leadership, Workflow & Team Standards

  • Act as the creative lead within the marketing team, setting standards and helping others improve the quality of their work.
  • Manage content priorities, production workflows, deadlines, approvals and asset delivery across a fast-moving start-up environment.
  • Brief and guide agencies, photographers, videographers, designers, freelancers and internal contributors where required.
  • Create practical templates, shoot guides, campaign checklists and brand examples that make the team faster and more consistent.
  • Bring creative ideas forward regularly, with the judgement to know what is worth pursuing, what should be parked and what needs to move now.

Governance, Safety & Brand Integrity

  • Ensure all creative and content activity aligns with club brand standards, privacy requirements, NRL regulations, broadcast rules, child safety requirements and internal approval processes.
  • Apply good judgement when capturing and publishing content involving players, staff, fans, children, partners, community groups and match-day environments.
  • Protect the Perth Bears brand by knowing when to move quickly and when to pause, check and escalate.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful approach when working around football, commercial partners, media, government stakeholders and supporters.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in content, creative, digital or social, ideally in sport, entertainment, media, agency or brand-side environments.
  • A strong portfolio showing creative thinking, video, social storytelling, campaign ideas and polished execution.
  • Strong hands-on video and photo capture skills, with a good feel for framing, lighting, audio and storytelling.
  • Strong editing ability across short-form and campaign content, using tools such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut or After Effects.
  • Excellent writing, with a strong sense of tone, captions, scripts, hooks and fan engagement.
  • Deep understanding of social platforms, especially Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • The ability to balance brand quality with speed, and to manage multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders at once.
  • Confidence giving creative direction and constructive feedback to internal and external contributors.
  • Graphic design or motion graphics capability (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Figma or similar) is highly regarded.
  • A builder’s mindset - you will not be walking into a mature content machine; you will help create it.
  • A fan-first instinct, so every piece of content makes someone feel closer to the Perth Bears.
  • Speed, calmness and good judgement in a fast-moving environment.
  • A willingness to be hands-on now, while building systems that allow the club to scale.
  • A passion for rugby league, or the drive to quickly understand the game, the fans and the culture, is highly regarded.

Working in a Start-Up Environment

The Perth Bears are a start-up organisation in a critical foundation phase. This position is intentionally hands-on and will initially operate with lean support structures.

The Creative & Content Manager will design, build and deliver concurrently while the club grows around you. This is not a role with layers of administration or inherited systems. You will be required to design processes, integrate technology platforms, build relationships, solve problems in real time, and deliver outcomes concurrently.

Success in this role requires comfort with ambiguity, strong personal accountability, and the ability to move seamlessly between strategic planning and hands-on execution. As the club scales, there will be significant opportunities to shape the future structure and resourcing of the function.

Why Join Us

This is more than a job - it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape the success of Perth's new NRL team. You'll be part of a start-up phase where your ideas, energy and leadership will directly influence the club's future.

  •  This is a rare opportunity to build a team entirely from the ground up, within a high-profile, values-driven organisation
  • Work in a dynamic, ambitious and supportive start-up culture
  • Leave your mark on rugby league in Western Australia
