Description

The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is on a bold journey towards Brisbane 2032 and beyond. Following the extraordinary success of Queensland athletes at the recent Olympic and Paralympic Games, we are now focused on delivering even more medal-winning moments through to Los Angeles 2028 and our home Games in 2032.

This contract opportunity will suit a qualified Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist. Based on the Gold Coast, this role requires the provision of Physiotherapy support to all National Training Centre (NTC) athletes and coaches across all the Paddle Australia (PA) High Performance Programs, and the underpinning QAS Paddle Program. You will be the primary physiotherapy point of contact for two of the High Performance programs. Your work will be conducted and shared across Paddle Australia’s Complex at Pizzey Park and other affiliated training facilities. You will also be responsible for developing strategies to support exceptional High-Performance outcomes.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop professional and effective working relationships with athletes, coaches and other QAS and National support staff. Provide timely handovers to medical and health staff when indicated. Critical to this is developing a close working relationship with the Senior QAS Paddle Physiotherapist and PA Strength & Conditioning staff.
  • Develop strong and genuine connection with performance support team members to foster collaboration, efficiencies and positive health and performance outcomes. Collaboration with S&C practitioners and involvement in pre-training activation, warm-up sessions and return-to-train programs is a primary example.
  • With the Medical Doctor, facilitate the early diagnosis and management of acute or persistent injury presentations and their rehabilitation. A close working relationship with Strength and Conditioning is important as the athlete works to maintain levels of fitness and prepares to return to training and competition.
  • Create time and space to attend both on water and gym-based training sessions to nurture athlete and coach connection, collaboration and early intervention strategies.
  • Developing sport specific technical knowledge and the identification of movement patterns and mechanisms that positively impact paddle performance, or potentially lead to increased injury risk, is a key aspect of the role.
  • Contribute relevant information into Athlete Performance Plans to reflect the athlete’s performance and health goals.
  • Attend performance support meetings as agreed with the High Performance Director and Performance Support & Innovation Manager to provide guidance around athlete health and proactive measures which aim to further improve athlete performance.

The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our athletes.

We are committed to an environment where athletes from any background are heard, treated fairly and free from abuse.
