Description

About Us

Cockburn Basketball Association (CBA) is one of Western Australia's largest and fastest-growing community sporting organisations, delivering basketball opportunities to more than 10,000 participants annually.

Our purpose is to create a place where people belong, develop and thrive through basketball. From grassroots participation to elite pathways, we provide opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and families to connect through sport.

As we continue to grow and prepare for the future redevelopment of Wally Hagan Stadium, we are seeking an experienced leader to join our team as Basketball & Community Engagement Manager.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the CEO, the Basketball & Community Engagement Manager is responsible for the leadership, coordination and continuous improvement of CBA's WABL & NBL1 pathways, high-performance programs, stakeholder engagement and basketball operations.

Leading a small team across multiple portfolios, this role is focused on people, communication, volunteer leadership and stakeholder experience. The successful candidate will ensure our athletes, coaches, volunteers, partners and families have a positive experience across all touchpoints of the Association.

We are seeking a strong people leader who can build relationships, manage competing priorities, drive operational excellence and contribute to a positive and values-led culture.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, support and develop a team of staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a positive, accountable and high-performing workplace culture.
  • Provide leadership across basketball operations, facilities and community engagement activities alongside CEO & Director of Coaching.
  • Support staff development, coach development and other basketball pathways.

Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with athletes, coaches, parents, volunteers, partners and key stakeholders.
  • Lead communication strategies that improve stakeholder experience and engagement.
  • Manage community issues, feedback and complaints professionally and efficiently.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen connection between participants and the broader Cockburn Basketball community.

Basketball Operations

  • Oversee the delivery of CBA's representative basketball programs, including WABL and NBL1 operations.
  • Ensure programs operate efficiently, professionally and in line with Association standards.
  • Support and engage with coaches, managers and volunteers to deliver exceptional participant experiences.
  • Maintain compliance with league, governance and integrity requirements.

Partnerships & Growth

  • Support the delivery of sponsorship and partnership outcomes.
  • Contribute to membership, engagement and retention initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and stakeholder experience.
  • Assist with strategic projects that support the growth and sustainability of the Association.

Facilities & Event Operations

  • Oversee the operational standards of Wally Hagan Stadium.
  • Support the delivery of game nights, events and community activations.
  • Coordinate contractors, suppliers and service providers as required.
  • Ensure facilities remain safe, welcoming and fit for purpose.

About You

You are a people-focused leader who enjoys bringing communities together and creating positive experiences.

Your background may be in education, local government, events, hospitality, customer experience, membership organisations, not-for-profit organisations or sport. Community sport experience is valued but not essential.

What matters most is your ability to lead people, build relationships and create environments where individuals feel connected, supported and valued.

Essential Experience

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholder groups & communication systems.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience leading staff, volunteers or teams.
  • Experience managing programs, projects or operational functions.
  • Knowledge of volunteer management and community engagement.
  • Experience coordinating events, competitions or community programs.
  • Experience working within community sport, recreation, education or not-for-profit organisations.
  • Basketball knowledge or experience within sporting environments.
  • Experience managing budgets, resources and competing priorities.

Why Join Cockburn Basketball Association?

  • Lead within one of WA's largest basketball communities.
  • Make a meaningful impact on thousands of participants and families.
  • Work within a values-driven and community-focused organisation.
  • Be part of an exciting period of growth and future facility redevelopment.
  • Opportunity to shape the future of basketball and community engagement in the Cockburn region.

If you are passionate about people, community and creating impactful experiences, we'd love to hear from you.
