Basketball NSW is the recognised state sporting organisation responsible for the development, promotion and governance of basketball across New South Wales. Position Purpose
The Regional Development Officer: Central Coast / Hunter is responsible for connecting, supporting and growing basketball across the Central Coast / Hunter region. The role acts as a key point of contact for affiliated associations within the region, building strong local relationships, providing practical support, and helping associations grow sustainably.
The role supports the delivery and promotion of Basketball NSW participation, inclusion and community growth programs aligned to Basketball NSW’s strategic and operational priorities. Basketball NSW will provide training and education to ensure the Regional Development Officer is upskilled across relevant programs, systems and delivery frameworks.
Region
The role is responsible for supporting the Central Coast / Hunter region, including the following associations: Central Coast Waves, Central Coast Basketball Inc, Cessnock, Denman, Gloucester, Maitland, Muswellbrook, Newcastle, Scone and Singleton.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Delivery and Participation Growth
- Support the promotion, coordination and implementation of Basketball NSW participation, inclusion and development programs in line with strategic and operational plans.
- Assist in the delivery of regional participation and community growth initiatives that increase access to basketball and support sustainable participation outcomes.
- Identify local opportunities to collaborate with schools, community groups, councils, local partners and other stakeholders to expand basketball participation.
- Support program delivery standards, including preparation, communication, attendance, participant experience, risk management and post-program reporting.
- Promote inclusive participation opportunities that encourage involvement from underrepresented groups and ensure basketball remains accessible, welcoming and safe.
- Association Support and Development
- Act as the primary operational contact for affiliated basketball associations within the Central Coast / Hunter region.
- Build trusted and constructive relationships with association staff, committees, volunteers and local basketball stakeholders.
- Support associations to identify areas for improvement and assist with practical strategies to strengthen participation, governance, member engagement and local delivery.
- Collaborate with association development officers and other local basketball leaders to share information, align activity and support regional priorities.
- Provide practical support, guidance and information to associations to help strengthen sustainable growth, community engagement and participant pathways.
- Community and Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent Basketball NSW at regional meetings, forums, community events, competitions and other activities as directed.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with schools, councils, community organisations, local sporting networks and other partners.
- Increase the visibility of Basketball NSW programs, services and opportunities within the region.
- Support the promotion of basketball as an inclusive, safe and accessible sport for participants, families, volunteers and communities.
- Provide local insights and feedback to Basketball NSW to inform planning, program design and stakeholder engagement activity.
- Reporting, Administration and Internal Collaboration
- Maintain accurate and timely records relating to regional programs, participation outcomes, stakeholder engagement and association support activity.
- Prepare reports, updates and information as required by the Head of Participation & Community and Basketball NSW leadership.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams, fellow Regional Development Officers and other Basketball NSW staff to share information, resources and best-practice approaches.
- Assist with the coordination and delivery of other Basketball NSW activities, events and projects as reasonably directed.
- Use Basketball NSW systems, templates and processes consistently to support accurate reporting, communication and compliance.
- Risk, Governance and Compliance
- Actively identify, assess and mitigate risks associated with regional program delivery, stakeholder engagement and community activities to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
- Comply with Basketball NSW policies, procedures, codes of conduct and all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Support child safe, inclusive and respectful environments across all Basketball NSW programs and activities.
- Report incidents, hazards, complaints, safeguarding matters or other concerns in accordance with Basketball NSW policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle information appropriately, including personal, participant, association and organisational information.

Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in sport development or sport governance, community sport, participation programs, education, recreation, stakeholder engagement or a related field.
- Strong understanding of community sport environments, including the role of associations, volunteers, committees and local delivery partners.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including associations, schools, councils, community organisations, volunteers and families.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly, respond professionally and represent Basketball NSW in a positive manner.
- Good organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records and meet agreed deadlines.
- Practical understanding of risk management, child safety, inclusion and safe program delivery in a sport or community setting.
- A collaborative, values-led approach and a willingness to work flexibly across regional activities, events and programs.

Essential Requirements
- Current NSW Working With Children Check, or ability to obtain one prior to commencement.
- Current driver licence and access to a reliable vehicle for regional travel.
- Full Australian Working Rights: Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Australian permanent resident
- Capacity to travel throughout the Central Coast / Hunter region and attend Basketball NSW activities, meetings and events as required.
- Willingness to complete Basketball NSW induction, safeguarding, WHS, integrity, cyber and other mandatory training requirements.
