AusCycling is the nation’s peak riding and cycling body, representing more than 5 million Australians who ride bikes. Formed in 2020 from 19 state, territory, and national bodies, AusCycling is responsible for programs, projects and initiatives that encompass BMX, Track, Mountain Bike, Road, Para and recreational.

We help school kids learn to ride, we stage more than 500 events each year, we nurture clubs and create pathways, and we are responsible for the training, welfare, and performance of Australia’s Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth Games and World Tour athletes.

Team Purpose             

AusCycling’s Clubs and Community Enhancement Pillar is responsible for building, supporting, and enhancing the capabilities of both the Club Network and associated community organisations. The team also drives high quality experiences for sport participants, administrators, coaches, and officials with the aim of creating a world-class, sustainable national sporting system.

Position Purpose       

The Participation Development Team Member supports the delivery of AusCycling’s participation strategy by creating programs, partnerships and experiences that connect more Australians with cycling.

Working within the Participation team, this role contributes to the delivery of the Play Well strategic pillars by:

  • expanding participation opportunities through programs, events and experiences
  • supporting inclusive and accessible pathways into organised cycling
  • helping clubs deliver high quality participation environments.
  • strengthening connections between riders, clubs and communities

Participation Development Team Members operate within a national participation system and may contribute to different participation initiatives across the Participation pillar as organisational priorities evolve.

Key Responsibilities               

  1. Deliver Participation Experiences

Support the planning and delivery of participation initiatives that create welcoming entry points to cycling and connect riders with clubs, events and communities.

These experiences may include:

  • AusBike programs
  • Community riding initiatives
  • Participation events
  • Introductory cycling experiences
  • Club-based participation activities.

These activities contribute to the Play Well pillar Enhanced Experiences, which aims to create programs that connect people with clubs and keep them riding for life.

  1. Grow Our Cycling Community

Support initiatives that expand participation in cycling and increase the number and diversity of riders engaging with AusCycling programs and communities.

Responsibilities include:

  • identifying opportunities to expand participation programs including AusBike within schools, clubs and communities
  • supporting initiatives that make organised cycling more accessible and relevant to new riders
  • assisting in the delivery of participation events and entry points into organised cycling.

These activities contribute to the Play Well pillar Grow Our Community, which focuses on making cycling more accessible, inclusive and relevant to a broader range of riders.

  1. Strengthen Club Connections

Support clubs and community partners to deliver participation opportunities that connect riders with the club environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • assisting clubs to deliver introductory riding programs and participation initiatives
  • strengthening relationships between clubs, schools and local communities
  • helping connect riders from participation programs into club environments.

This work contributes to the Play Well pillar Empowered Clubs, which aims to support clubs to grow and deliver positive community experiences.

  1. Support the Participation Workforce

Assist in building the network of instructors, coaches and delivery partners who support participation programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • working with instructors, coaches and providers delivering participation initiatives
  • supporting education and workforce initiatives that strengthen participation delivery capacity.
  • Recruitment, development and retention of highly capable instructors and coaches.

This contributes to the Play Well pillar Expanded Workforce, which aims to grow the number of skilled people delivering quality experiences.

  1. Stakeholder Engagement

Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including:

  • schools and teachers
  • cycling clubs
  • instructors and program providers
  • local and state government and community organisations.

Strong partnerships help strengthen the cycling participation ecosystem and expand opportunities for riders.

  1. Participation Data and Insights

Capture participation data and insights that support the continuous improvement of programs and experiences and the evaluation of participation initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

    • recording participation activity within centralised systems
    • contributing insights from program delivery and stakeholder engagement
    • supporting evaluation and improvement of participation initiatives.
  1. Other
    • Other Duties as requested from time to time.
    • Safeguard the integrity of AusCycling through implementation of the highest standards and community expectations within the state or territory with regard to inclusion, the safety and wellbeing of children, and anti-doping.
