Position Summary

Conducting competitions is one of the primary responsibilities of Little Athletics Queensland. The Competitions Coordinator is responsible for the end-to-end success and efficient operation of these competitions to ensure a quality experience for athletes, officials and spectators.

The role requires a high level of attention to detail and is responsible for the event management components of delivering a competition (venue bookings, medals), right through to the competition specific aspects of the sport of athletics (nominations, results).

The role is responsible for the review and growth of these competitions and looking at alternative strategies to increase participation in line with the ethos of “Family, Fun & Fitness” and “Be Your Best”, while also ensuring opportunities exist for athletes to progress and develop as future stars of the sport.

The role also has primary responsibility to coordinate a team of volunteer officials including accreditation, education and rostering to ensure competitions are run to a high standard.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Experience in event, competition or sports administration, whether through paid employment, volunteering, or involvement in a sporting club or association.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency working with digital platforms and data, with a willingness to learn specialist competition management software (such as Sport:80, ResultsHQ or Meet Manager)
  • Knowledge of or involvement in the sport of athletics or Little Athletics, as an athlete, official, volunteer or administrator.
  • Experience working alongside or coordinating volunteers in a community sport or events context.
  • Confident communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with volunteers, athletes, families and officials across written and verbal formats.
  • Financial literacy, including the ability to manage a large budget in line with agreed parameters.
