TGS is seeking a Head of Athletics and Head Coach to join the team.  This role leads the School's athletics program from Years 5-12, overseeing all Cross Country and Athletics operations.

Working closely with Heads of Sport, teachers, operations teams, and coaching staff, the Head of Athletics ensures a cohesive, engaging athletics experience for students.   

About TGS

Founded in 1875, TGS is a member school of the Great Public Schools Association of Queensland (GPS).  It is an independent non-denominational day and boarding school for boys with a total enrolment of 1,200 from Preparatory to Year 12. The School’s campus covers 20.5 hectares and is located one kilometre from the centre of Toowoomba.

About the Position

Reporting to the Head of Sport, you will be responsible for driving high-quality coaching, athlete development, and participation across track and field, while coordinating training and competition programs.

Selection Criteria:

You will be able to demonstrate your ability and commitment to:

  • Leadership in Athletics Program Management: Demonstrated experience leading and managing comprehensive athletics programs, including coordinating Track & Field and Cross Country operations, with proven ability to build program culture, oversee coaching teams, and deliver high-quality training and competition experiences.
  • Coaching Expertise and Athlete Development: Advanced knowledge of athletic training principles, injury prevention, rehabilitation collaboration, and strength and conditioning methodologies, supported by relevant accreditation (Level 2 Track & Field minimum).
  • Operational Planning and Administration: Proven capability in coordinating schedules, events, camps, competitions, staffing, and logistics, including budget preparation and resource management, while maintaining accurate systems, documentation, and reporting in a high-volume school environment.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive relationships with students, parents, staff, coaches, and external stakeholders, exercising confidentiality, professionalism, and a collaborative approach.
  • Strategic Thinking, Adaptability and Personal Drive: Evidence of strong organisational skills, time management, and the ability to manage competing priorities, combined with a proactive, energetic, and adaptable approach that supports long-term program development, talent identification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
