- Engineer reliable data infrastructure across diverse platforms and sources
- Own the data warehouse and integrate multi-source datasets end to end
- Deliver real-time game insights that shape fan and commercial strategy
The data behind the game matters as much as the game itself.
The NBL is one of the world's fastest-growing basketball leagues, and we're building the data infrastructure to match. This is a role for someone who thinks in systems, not just tasks, someone who finds genuine satisfaction in building things that last and cares as much about the business outcome as the elegance of the solution.
When this role is thriving, every team across NBL Group has clean, reliable data they can actually use. The decisions that shape fan experiences, commercial partnerships, and competition strategy are grounded in something they can trust. That's what you'll be building.
About Us
The National Basketball League is regarded as one of the premier basketball leagues in the world, home to some of the world's best players, and truly a sports entertainment experience like no other. We're a league that's growing fast, thinking big and constantly raising the bar. If you're passionate about sport and want to be part of something that's genuinely on the rise, you'll find your place here.
The Role
Sitting within the Fan Data and Analytics team and reporting to the Fan Data and Analytics Manager, you'll own the infrastructure that keeps data moving across the entire organisation.
Day to day, you'll be:
- Building and maintaining scalable, secure data pipelines that collect and process data from ticketing, broadcast, digital platforms, and game sources
- Managing and optimising the League's data warehouse so data is accurate, accessible, and ready for analysis at any time
- Integrating diverse datasets spanning commercial, fan engagement, financial, and operational data into a single source of truth
- Delivering real-time data solutions for live game insights as well as longer-term analysis of fan behaviour and commercial trends
- Embedding automation across data collection, processing, and reporting to reduce manual effort and improve reliability
- Maintaining data quality controls, governance frameworks, and compliance with privacy legislation
- Collaborating with teams across Commercial, Marketing, Operations, Competition, and Finance to deliver data solutions that are actually useful
- Managing relationships with technology vendors, clubs, and external partners to keep integrations running seamlessly
- Exploring emerging technologies and translating industry trends in sports data and broadcast analytics into practical improvements
Who We're Looking For
You're the right person for this role if you read the responsibilities above and thought 'that's me.' More specifically, you bring:
- Strong SQL skills and proven experience with both relational and non-relational databases
- Solid experience with data warehousing solutions and data modelling techniques
- Experience with big data and streaming concepts (e.g. event-driven architectures, real-time ingestion), implemented using Google Cloud tools such as BigQuery and Pub/Sub.
- A working knowledge of data governance, privacy, and compliance requirements
- The ability to communicate complex technical challenges clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
It's a bonus if you've worked in sport, entertainment, or consumer-facing industries, and if you have experience across large, complex multi-source datasets. Most of all, a genuine passion for sport and what good data does for the fan experience will make this role genuinely meaningful for you.
