The Coach Development Officer – Foundations plays a key role in developing and accrediting coaches across Victoria, with a strong focus on community and grassroots programs.
You will support the delivery of coach education courses and development initiatives across Basketball Victoria competitions, working closely with affiliated associations to build coaching capability at a local level. The role contributes to high-quality, practical coaching education aligned with the Basketball Australia National Coach Development Framework (CDF).
This is a hands-on role suited to someone passionate about coaching, education, and supporting the growth of a strong community coaching workforce across the state.
About Us
Basketball Victoria (BV) is the peak body for the sport of Basketball in Victoria. The broad objectives of BV are to provide for the advancement, encouragement, conduct, promotion and administration of Basketball in Victoria. We are a member driven governing body, providing a range of services, leagues and competitions for over 140 affiliated associations.?
In addition to supporting?our affiliated Basketball associations, BV delivers a number of participation programs making basketball Everybody’s Game, as well as player, coach and technical official development programs to encourage the development of socially desirable attitudes and values towards physical fitness, skill acquisition and performance pathways.?
Key responsibilities for the role, but not limited to:
- Support the delivery and administration of Basketball Victoria’s Mandatory Coach Accreditation Program, with responsibility for Participation and Competition Bronze level coaches.
- Deliver approved Participation, Competition, and School Coach accreditation courses.
- Assist with scheduling, promotion, reaccreditation, and compliance monitoring of coach accreditation programs.
- Maintain and administer the BV Coach Database and Qualification Management System (QMS), including responding to enquiries and identifying coach progression opportunities.
- Support coach development initiatives, facilitator development, and the creation and maintenance of coaching resources.
- Assist with coach evaluations, development projects, clinics, workshops, and conferences.
- Support affiliated associations to develop and strengthen local coach development structures.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Coach Education Manager, consistent with the role.

- Support the delivery of Basketball Victoria’s coach development strategy and broader organisational objectives.

You are a passionate and knowledgeable basketball coach with a strong commitment to community and grassroots development. You have experience supporting and delivering coach education programs and enjoy working hands-on with coaches, volunteers, and affiliated associations. With an understanding of the Basketball Australia National Coach Development Framework (CDF), you help deliver practical, engaging learning experiences. You are organised, proactive, and motivated by building a strong, inclusive coaching workforce across Victoria.
This role will be based at Wantirna South but involves travel around Victoria and includes nights and weekend activity. Employees will be reimbursed for travel expenses.
Preferred experience:
Essential
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of coaching basketball.
- Holds, or ability to obtain, Basketball Australia Representative Coach and Basketball Victoria Facilitator accreditations.
- Strong understanding of community basketball, including working with volunteers in Victoria.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present to groups.
- Ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
- Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Well-developed organisation and time management skills.
- Willingness to work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends.
- Innovative approach with willingness to adopt new technologies and processes.
- Working knowledge of financial planning and reporting.
- Understanding of Child Safety standards and requirements.
Desirable
- Hold or be able to attain a FIBA Coach Facilitators Accreditation.
- Knowledge, experience and skill in negotiation, mediation and dispute resolution.
- Skills and experience in the field of education.
Qualifications
- Basketball Australia Representative Coach accreditation, or ability to obtain.
- Basketball Victoria Facilitator accreditation, or ability to obtain.
- Current Victorian Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
- Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
