THE ORGANISATION AND THE JOB
FIBA in Oceania is one of five regional offices established by FIBA (International Basketball Federation) for the worldwide development and organisation of basketball. FIBA in Oceania is also the first point of call for the 22 National Basketball Federations within the Oceania region.
This job is an entry level role to the sports industry aimed towards recent outstanding graduates or final year students of Sports Management, Business or Finance and/or others with talent and experience in sports administration. This role would also be suited for parents/carers returning to work and looking for flexible hours.
We will provide the right candidate with real hands-on sports administration experience across a range of working areas.
As part of our small team based in Southport, working with us will build you a core set of skills and experiences in sports and organisational administration, in particular in competitions and finance management, that will serve your future career with us or other sports organisations well.
SPECIFIC TASKS
- First point of contact to provide administrative support to the FlBA in Oceania Member Federations, Board Members and other staff as directed.
- Administer the Foreign Player (FIBA A) License program within Australia and New Zealand.
- Financial administrative duties including project budget management, acquitting receipts, banking, invoicing, asset register and stock control.
- Assist the Sports & Competitions department with player eligibility and competition management tasks in preparation for events.
- Support other staff in the development of and reporting against the Oceania Operational Plan.
- Administrative support for the Executive Director.
JOB DIMENSIONS
This role reports to the Executive Director - Oceania but will be directed by other staff on a regular basis for specific tasks. You will need to build and maintain good relationships through your ability to deliver on time and with quality to our Member Federations.
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
The Executive Director will invest time in you with regular honest and constructive dialogue on your performance and will work with you to find innovative ways to continue to build your skills and experiences. A set of key performance indicators will be agreed with you each year.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualifications
Ideally you will have tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, Sports Management or a similar field; or have one to two years sports administration experience.
The right candidate for this role will be able to demonstrate:
Skills and knowledge
- Financial administration knowledge, an understanding of budgeting and financial reporting and experience in financial management software (Xero or similar).
- Computer literacy - including MS Office suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and Canva along with an aptitude in learning other specific industry or commercial software.
- Project Management experience suitable to arranging meetings or small events; or have Project Management theory and how you would practically apply it in this setting.
- An understanding of the principles of sports competitions/leagues.
- Knowledge of basketball is advantageous but not a must.
- Familiarity or experience working in the Pacific is advantageous.
Personal Attributes
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to relate to a wide range of people from different age and cultural backgrounds.
- Be capable of working within a small team or independently.
- Be proactive with the ability to solve problems, work under pressure and meet deadlines as necessary to succeed in this role.
- Be reliable, have a good work ethic and be able to keep progressing things even when it's still ambiguous.
LOCATION
The position will be located at the FlBA Regional Office Oceania in Southport (Gold Coast), Queensland. Due to the nature of our small team, applicants must be willing and able to re-locate to the Gold Coast for this role.
Travel may be involved in this role so the candidate must be able and willing to travel as required.
Candidates must have the legal right to work in Australia (no visa sponsorship)
HOURS OF WORK
This is a part-time position, three days per week (22.5 hours) with potential for an increase to full-time hours in the near future.
SALARY and start date
Salary is set at pro rata equivalent of $60,000 aud per annum plus superannuation. The role starts on 1 June 2026.
